Let´s talk about Leadership
"If you build an army of 100 lions and their leader is a dog, in any fight, the lions will die like a dog. But if you build an army of 100 dogs and their leader is a lion, all the dogs will fight like a lion. " Napoleon Bonaparte
I had never seen that phrase of Napoleon Bonaparte, that leader of the French armies, yes, perhaps his analogy seems somewhat absurd if we see it literally, however, when we analyze it in depth we can surely find many important things to discuss from it.
At least it made me think about it and no doubt that when we undertake any project, be it financial or of any kind, we always think that we must have a good team, and yes, certainly, but there is another reality, if we are the leaders, do we ask ourselves if we are up to the demands, it is a question we must ask ourselves, because perhaps we could fall into the trap of being a dog leading a team of lions.
Okay, let's not talk about ourselves, maybe we do not have the need to seek to be a leader of something and we do not feel very calm in our respective jobs, but perhaps we wonder if we agree with the management or leadership of our boss, this is another detail, we are able to see in the other all that he lacks, and could have a team of the best, but without clear ideas, without the ability to properly order each of the members in the position in which it could perform better, it simply will not perform the way it could be.
Something that makes me think that in some moments I have been in the leadership of some projects, or in different jobs, and evaluating I feel that in some of them I could have done better.
I remember that in the surgical area of a hospital where I worked in Venezuela, I was appointed as chief resident, the truth is that part of the work team was very deficient in academic terms, we had been trained in 3 different universities, and there were differences, although in the university we see in essence the same, there are those who are more dedicated than others, and the demands of the universities make a big difference too.
Well, I was used to high demands, and others were not, these differences made the work very difficult, it was really hard, but we try to do the best we can.
There are realities that are out of our hands, and besides, every scenario (work or academic, sports or artistic) in which a group of people work together will require someone to take the lead, but if the rest are not in the best disposition, it will simply not be possible to advance as much as we could.
So, the leader can be the head of the team but must match the skills of the one leading and those being led, otherwise, it will be a feat to achieve the best results.
I believe that all of us at some point in our lives have been a leader, and it is good to analyze our performance, we can always improve, don't you think?
I authorize the use of this banner to everyone who wants to do it.
If there is something that defines a great team and an excellent result is a good leader, since always, since all times have been established strategies and endless preparations for all. it seems an excellent job, my congratulations.
Thank you my friend.
That's right, leading is not something new to be discovered as a breakthrough, rather it is something we should take up in good measure.
hello @josevas217,
Being a leader is not an easy thing to do, I remember that some time ago a very dear friend of mine who was a sales leader of a wellness company told me that if I wanted to be a leader I had to learn to herd a herd of cats, yes "a herd of cats" at first I laughed a little but with time I understood that cats are difficult to convince to work in a single unit because each one wants to do what he wants, now if you can make them all follow the same path, you will be a true master of leadership with people.
It's a really good analogy to use cats to demonstrate the stubbornness of human beings.

Greetings friend, no doubt at some point we have to lead a project, professional or family, and in the end when the balance is made we always realize the things that could have been done better, but it is at the end when we are more knowledgeable and we realize it, that helps us grow and prepares us for the next position. But if we are only leaders for the desire of the title of boss, things can be different, the skills of the team are not valued, and if it is very good, it can be left in the hands of someone without knowledge or who does not listen to them, disarticulating everything you want to do.
That is another detail, that some people who do not have the slightest preparation are in charge of big projects, and finally of big disasters.
Hello friend @josevas217.
Actually a great article that you share with us on this occasion, personally I had not read these words of the great Napoleon Bonaparte, where, I also share that you have expressed:
Totally true and this sometimes we can observe in our environment where we can see certain people leading an extraordinary group of lions when the leader does not belong to the herd of lions, it was a pleasure to read your article as you leave us many life lessons, thank you for sharing such rich content, many successes. Best regards.
There is nothing that fully prepares us to take on some responsibilities, I believe that intuition can play a determining role.
As I always say, we can improve, we can evolve, change, improve ourselves. Leadership is no exception. Some time ago I read a phrase, it was not isolated, in fact it belonged to a list of "leader's beatitudes" and it said:
I still keep that sheet (in a folder at my mother's house) and I never forgot that maxim.
I am always "getting into trouble" in the sense that I am always in the sense that I am always undertaking or starting something and in most cases, I have people working with me. So I try to fulfill that thought and create leaders, train people who can lead and lead themselves in the future. I can learn from them and they can learn from the little or much that I know.
Definitely, I prefer to be a lion and that in the end those "dogs" end up fighting like lions.
Thank you for sharing this reflection with us.
Good phrase, I think it allows to have a different approach when working with a team, and allows the ego to be put aside, that's already good in itself.

My dear @josevas217 how right you are in what you describe about leadership, what emotional and mental balance you have to have to exercise it with the wisdom of a dog and the strength of a lion, I admire that you remember those moments lived in Venezuela, I loved reading you, good reflection, much success.
Yes, wisdom is acquired over time, I don't think there is a better school than life itself.
When it comes to Leadership, we should keep in mind that a real leader leads through example. That is, if someone considers he or she can lead a project should get involved in every stage. After all, discipline, constance and a right attitude can only be taught and learnt when a leader is up to the responsibility he or she has been given.
Yes, I totally agree, when someone is committed to each stage of the project and is also the example to follow, without a doubt, we are
I have met people who assume the responsibility of being leaders of a team and do not have the skills to do it and the other neither want to learn or let themselves be helped, leadership is not just about commanding, it is a role that requires both professional and personal skills that allow to assume it with responsibility. Very good post
It is common, the least prepared people are the most insecure, that is why they are mostly unable to accept advice.
A good leader is the always help it's followers and keep them in right and good path. A good person reflection always come in the followers if they are on the right path.
Yes, the point is that those who assume leadership often don't seem to have that clear. Thanks for commenting.
This is highly inspirational, it takes courage and strength to lead effectively and the strength of a leader goes a long way to push the business forward or drag it backwards, amazing post.
It is complex, there are always many factors present in the exercise of leadership, but that's how it is, you have to learn. Thanks for commenting.
