I'm also an advocate that it's better to say "I failed but I tried" than later to say "if I had..."
Unfortunately fear is an emotion that is present in too many people as a guide to their life, and they end up being and making their lives a big failure, and look for culprits, when they should assume that the only or the biggest responsible are themselves.
You said it all,nice comment. If you can eliminate fear then you will go far
