Don't Be Idle, Get Busy With Your Hands

in Project HOPE2 years ago

In this era and at this point in time, the only thing that has a future is action, not idleness. As a matter of fact, staying idle predisposes one to unwholesome thoughts which can lead to negative actions and then ultimately leading to negative results. This is also the same reason it has been said that "the devil workshop is in the idle mind." The truth is that you are not idle because you do not have what to do, but you are idle because you chose not to do it. As long as you want to take actions, you will see what to do.

You must not wait until you get the desirable kind of job, you have to start from the available, and then in due course, you will get the desirable. What many people give as excuse for not engaging their hands to work is that they have not found the kind of job they want. Well, just to let you know, many others are also looking for the same work, so you need to be busy with what you can find at the moment. More so, you can also create the work yourself.

There are many opportunities that fly across every passing day, but more often than not, they are not noticed until one decides to get his hands busy. To the idle mind, the opportunity will appear impossible and undoable, because he has made up his mind not to work. But to the doer, even the challenge that comes to them is an opportunity to put in something towards work. What differentiates successful people from others is that the former sees solution in every problem, while the latter sees problem in every solution. To get something to work for you, the responsibility is on you to work it out. This reminds me of one of Newton's laws of motion as I paraphrase:

For something to move, force needs to be applied to it, otherwise it will remain in its state of rest

The above law, even though it talks about motion, also holds true for other aspects of the human life. For example, the people in the farming sector will agree with me that harvest only succeeds planting. That is, if a farmer wants to have a harvest from his farm, there is a necessity for him to first plant seeds. If he remained idle during the planting season without doing anything, when the time for harvest comes, he will not have anything to harvest. In academics for example, a student that does not get his hands busy with studies, when the time for exams comes, he will be affected negatively because he did not prepare for it. You see, there are necessary conditions that need to be met before something can happen, and one of them is work.

You will agree with me that what you laboured to get is oftentimes more valued to you than what was just delivered on a platter of gold to you. It is true that people may gift you things, but to be successful and to amount to greatness, you cannot depend on people's gift - you have to put your hands to work. Not just putting in hard work but the work should be relevant to what you want to achieve - that is; working smart, so that the person will not end up beating the air in the name of working hard. Your work and your actions should be relevant and timely in order for them to deliver maximally.

There is a certain level of height you may not attain until you accumulate certain degrees of experiences. Of course, experience comes from taking actions. So staying dormant and not doing anything will eventually impede growth. I remember a piece of advice a friend once gave way back in school, he said "instead of doing nothing, it is better you take up a voluntary service or a community service, at least it will add to your experience." You will be surprised that it may be the voluntary services you undertook that will give you an edge when putting your experiences together for an employment. Whatever happens and in anywhere you find yourself, try not to be idle.

Thanks for reading

Peace on y'all

Hi
My opinion its always better to keep ourself busy than sitting idle. When we are idle then there is no value addition but keeping ourself busy is a way to add more value to the work as well as in our knowledge and understanding.

Well said. There is no value in idleness.

Thanks friend

Hello @samminator, I really liked your article that reflects a great truth, we have to stay active and positive in search of a solution to situations that come our way, otherwise we will end up beaten by our passivity.

So long, have a great week.

That's right. We should take actions and stay active so as to get solutions.

Thanks buddy

you must not wait until you get the desirable kind of job, you have to start from the available, and then in due course, you will get the desirable.

I like that phrase, I think that many people stay in their comfort zone and complain about not having good personal and professional life conditions, but they do nothing to achieve it. Very good post, congratulations.

Thanks a lot for the nice comment dear friend.

Be good

I hope this serves as a wake-up call to procrastinators and lazy people. Get something to do and see how life-enriching and rewarding it would be.
