Maintaining An Open Relationship With People

in Project HOPE3 months ago

When you feel you do not need someone again, you do not just cut them off because they may become an asset to you tomorrow. It is weird to see people being too quick to cut people off from their lives if they feel they are no longer benefiting from them. What they fail to understand is that they may need them again tomorrow and they will become unwilling to help. You do not just keep people because of the hopes of drawing benefits from them, this is why you need to maintain open relationship with people. Even if you want to part ways with someone, there is always a humane and civil way of doing it because you do not know where your paths will cross tomorrow.

You will be surprised that the same people that helped you on your way out may also become needed on your way in. If you had closed the door against them when you have gone out, when you need them on your way in, they may be nowhere to be found. You do not wish for a bridge to fall after you have passed through it, remember that you can still pass through it again in the future. You need to learn how to build a long-term relationship with people - this is what you will call "connection" in the future. It will be easier for a friend to go all out for their friend who they have built a long-term relationship with than just any random person.

You may not be friends with everyone. However, that you are not their friends does not mean you should be in enmity with them - always keep the relationship open. One day, they may become instrumental to providing solution to you. One of the things that I have understood in life is that you cannot predict what tomorrow holds and as such, you cannot rule out the infinite possibilities in life. It may be the same person that you overlook today and even looked down on, that may become your greatest ally tomorrow, so learn to maintain an open relationship with people.

It is true that it is good to save your friends as part of your duties to humanity, but you can also spare an enemy. Someone that you consider an enemy today may someday because the reason for your survival. Just as there are no permanent friends, so also in life, permanent enemy may not also exist. There is no limit to how people can change positively. Who you see as being bad today may turn a new leaf tomorrow and become good. This is part of the reasons I do not give up on people, because you cannot predict what will become of them tomorrow.

A friend of mine, who I consider a mentor from way back, made this statement; "If you pass through a door when you are going out, be careful of how you slam the door, because the same door will still be needed by you to enter the same place." This is not about doors but it can mean that you have to learn to keep open relationships with people, even if you do not need them today, you should not shut the door against them because you may need them at a later time. You need to learn how to live in peace and with open-mindedness with people. This also makes you to attract good people to you. People are normally attracted to the people that they see as being welcoming and open-minded.

Another thing to take note of that will help you is that you need to work on your character and on your attitude so as to be able to retain good relationships with people. It you want people to relate goodly with you, then you have to also learn how to relate goodly with them. More so, treating people well will help you to secure a good relationship but much more importantly, it makes you a better person. Even if someone may have offended you, there is always a better way to resolve it without bringing disadvantage to the whole issue. Remember that you do not solve a wrong action by introducing another wrong action.
