Is there any benefit to having a sense of guilt?

Perhaps if we explore and evaluate this topic under a biological and social understanding we could understand if there is any benefit in having a feeling of guilt.

In the case of when we are angry, anger helps us to put limits on some repression, as well as sadness helps us to recognize some unhappy situations, as we have noticed many feelings and emotions have a purpose in human survival, that is why guilt would not be the exception, let's continue analyzing in this post what would be the benefit of the feeling of guilt in humans.

Behind the feeling of guilt is an adaptive function regarding our personal growth and the way we relate to others, so we can ask ourselves:

What is guilt?

It is a feeling of human expression, in which any person for having made a mistake feels an unpleasant sensation.

What happens if we do not feel guilt?

What I think would happen is that other feelings that need regulation would develop, such as acting without scruples, guilt is ultimately a regulatory feeling that makes us reflect on our most erroneous actions, so that every time we feel guilt we try to improve our behavior in the future.
