High Street Sales Tracker - COVID19 Impact

image.png

  • BDO High Street Sales Tracker for the week ending 5 April 2020 shows total UK non-food LFLs of -39.1% (Prior Year +1.3%), with store-based LFLs -94.2% (PY -3.5%) and online (non-store) +77.3% (PY +23.3%).
  • Fashion LFL sales decreased -40.3% (prior year +2.1%), ‎Lifestyle‎ -39.2% (prior year +1.2%), and Homewares -25.5% (prior year -5.9%).

Analysis and Comments

  • The reported total LFLs of -39.1% (Fashion -40.3%) mark a less severe downturn than some analysts sector average assumption of -80% for the week.
  • At present, the majority of non-food retail stores in the UK are closed, however with the notable exception of Next, the majority of clothing retailers are continuing to fully operate online.
  • The outperformance this week versus the street expectations has therefore come from online (non-store) sales, with BDO reporting a very strong +77.3% across all non-food retail categories.
  • While a category breakdown is not provided, the data implies a significant year-on-year increase in online fashion sales.

Short, but solid post.
Hopefully we can meet, in the splinterlands adventurer.

I hope so too and we might have in the past ;)

So sad, most retail stores around the nation are closed and that might make them loose a lot this period.

What is LFL? Extreme Football League?
