Bahbahra And Paua

Bahbahra And Paua

This is another shot in my series at home or playing around at home during the pandemic series, and Bahbahra felt like making an appearance in a photo but please don't tell her that she wasn't the main focus of the whole post or she may get her little nose out of joint.

Her she is posing for a photo with a bit of bokek in the background created by what is called here an Abaone shell, I must say I am quite happy with this shot, Bahbahra loves it as well and would make it her profile photo for social media sites, but she doesn't have any LOL

Now I am calling this shell an Abalone, which what I think they are called here, but this is actually a Paua Shell from New Zealand, and I decided to google and see if they were the same thing and this is what I found

Pāua and abalone are both common names for species of Haliotis. Abalone is a more generalized American name for all Haliotis species. Pāua is the common name for the New Zealand species Haliotis iris.

Haliotis iris, or pāua, is a species of abalone exclusively found in New Zealand. They are prized for their bright turquoise shells with an iridescent rainbow sheen. The white outer layer of the pāua shell is sanded off, and the turquoise is polished to make stunning jewelry unique to New Zealand.

The indigenous Māori people traditionally eat pāua; the jet-black flesh has a unique shellfish flavor and rubbery texture that make them a popular export for Asian markets in the New Zealand aquaculture industry.

I do love the colors of this shell, I think at the time we bought this I also bought a couple of pieces of Jewelry for my wife, I must check if she still has them that may be another indoor photo shoot I could do some time
