Steemit Engagement Challenge S6/W1 - List Your Childhood Outdoor Games, Which are Not Famous Globally.

in Hindwhale Community2 years ago (edited)

Games! One of my favorites to talk about. But this one is special. It's about games + our childhood memories! It's hard to find someone who didn't enjoy playing as a kid. Most probably you may remember lovely scoldings from your parents due to this subject. 😁😋 It's the same from my side too.

So, congratulations Hind Whale Community to be selected to host engagement challenge, and thank you for bringing up this interesting contest

Whenever there is free time in school we used to play many indoor and outdoor games. And just after school, it's time to enjoy the village. I had some amazing friends at that time, who adapted to this routine. Still, I can remember those days, and it puts a smile and tears on my face at the same time.

Cricket and various versions of it, card games, carrom, volleyball, Kabadi, even sometimes from pens and pen clips, and many more games that I didn't know the exact names of. Most of the time, we adjusted rules and formed new games according to our convenience. 😅 So, I'll share some of them with you.

One Bouncer

You guys know about Cricket, right? This game is a junior version of it. We just need tennis balls, a bat, and a wicket. The number of players is no issue. Rules are very simple. We don't have to score runs, just have to stay as long as possible without getting out. The batsman is in one team, and all the others are trying to get the wicket.

All the ways of getting out in Cricket are valid with two more additions. After the batsman played a shot, if we catch the ball after hitting one time off the ground it's also out. That's how the name comes. And also if the batsman misses three consecutive balls, it's also out.

It's very challenging. A small playing area is better. And we can make it interesting by setting a small boundary, if we hit over that line, it's also out... 😋 The one who stands the most deliveries is the winner.

Chaggudu/ Kabaddi

It's called Kabadi in India. Internationally there are many rules, but we played it simply as chaggudu. Two teams of around 5/6 is okay. In the playing area, a center line and border lines are marked, just like a volleyball court without a net.

One player from the team goes to the other side and tries to touch the opponent players. But he should be careful not to get captured by the other team. If he gets caught the scores are for the opponent. And if he successfully touches players and is able to come to his side, the score is for them. The highest score after all get the chance to win the match.

Card Game - Donkey

There are so many games that can be played from a card pack. This is a fun game. Only a card pack is needed and no. of people is no problem (ideally 5/6).

First we remove one J/ Jack card from the pack. So, 51 cards are available. Then cards are shared among the players, who sit in a circle. Don't show your deck to others. First, we can remove couples of the same cards (only the value is concerned). The remaining cards are in the hands of players.

Next, we can take one card from the next person (either clockwise or anticlockwise), and match it with the same cards, so we can remove them both. So, on the opportunity to pass around the circle. The ones who finished their deck of hand first are winners.

Finally, one person gets stuck with Jack. He is the donkey 😂😂

Final Words

Participating in this brings back so many nostalgic feelings for me. Because these are things that made our childhood colorful.

I'll end up with one of my memories at the school about playing games.

In school we are not allowed to play games every time we needed. I think it's the same for you as well. But my classroom is just near the playground. So, we used to play whenever it was possible. Mainly Cricket/ One bouncer. We have a separate place for this. And we used to put one person from the batting side as security to check whether the principal or any tough teacher comes. 😅😅

But one day we cornered the principal and the two other teachers. We had nowhere to run. They gave us a very funny and humiliating punishment. In the main outdoor stage of the school, we have to act like we are playing, without equipment. We have to be there for one hour straight...😂😂😂

So, that's it. Hope you will enjoy it. Thank you for the opportunity. I invite @Ngoenyi, @msharif, @heriadi, @prasadi and @sachisewwandi to the contest!

And also you can join the BLACK FRIDAY – Write and win! contest organized by friend @patjewell, in order to support #smilesouthafrica project

Until the next time! Enjoy!

Thank you.
Best Regards!

The first image is made by Canva, using a free template. And also I am using the paid version of Canva as well.

And if you mean the next one, it's a royalty-free image from Getty Images.

So, I don't know about the issue. Can anyone explain? @cryptogecko @jyoti-thelight @lavanyalakshman

Thank you very much for your time for the verification. By the way um not talking about Cricket there. 😋

Hello @damithudaya,

Thanks for participating in this engagement challenge organized by the @hindwhale community.

The question you have is why you cannot use a picture from the Getty Images library when it is readily available to download without purchasing the image in your post, right?

Now, let me elaborate on why you cannot and why you should refrain from using images from these types of royalty-free websites.

The reason is that the website, even if they say that the images are royalty-free on their websites, are offered as a product, and therefore without purchasing the image, you cannot use them in any of your commercial products or post where you are being paid.

Here is a written part of the license agreement by the website, and they explicitly mention that you have to purchase the image in order to use it on your product or website.

I hope it helps, and I would suggest you remove the image and use some other image from the recommended websites that our moderator has already mentioned in their feedback.

Ah..... I didn't go into that much detail. I thought that we can use royalty-free images from the Getty Images site too... Um in a serious situation now to find images for these games... 😅😅 Anyway, thank you for the detailed clarification. I'll replace the images

Donkey! Oh my word! I haven't played that in many moons!!

This holiday is going to be donkey time and not rummy time.

Hello @damithudaya

Interesting description of the games of your childhood, I see that you actively participate in each of the initiatives of Steemit, and being already season 6 of this great competition, and it is noted that you are still very active in it, on the other hand, childhood was very good in certain times, better than the current ones right?

I think all of us who have been able to enjoy the traditional outdoor games of our regions are fortunate, there cannot be a complete childhood without that experience that generates so many laughs and stories to tell.

I really didn't know the first two options you detail, I had heard about Cricket, but I didn't know what it was about. I can say that I have learned something new today ; )

Greetings and much success.

Thank you, friend!
