Season 05 : Share Your Food diaries, Reviews, and Adventures! Dinner With Friends Аt One Of Тhe Best Restaurants.
Last week, I hit up one of the best Indian restaurants in Sofia with some friends. We hadn’t been there in a while, so we figured it was the perfect spot for a chill evening with great food and even better company. As you can tell from the photos, we went all out with the food - when the menu tempts you with so many good options, you can’t help it! The vibe and the food? Both spot on.
What’s cool about this place is how they make sure there’s something for everyone, whether you’re into vegan dishes, vegetarian options, or meat specialties. The chef and owner, Prakash, is originally from India. He trained in New Delhi, completing a three-year culinary program, and he’s got a Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point certificate to his name. The guy’s a pro! He’s worked in high-end restaurants at TAJ, Continental, and Crown Plaza hotels, and in Bulgaria, he’s even appeared on cooking TV shows to share his amazing Indian recipes.
We always make a reservation before going because the place can get busy, even though it’s a bit out of the way and not exactly cheap. But trust me, it’s worth it! If you’re ever in Sofia and craving authentic Indian food, check out Shaffran Restaurant.
Here are some of the dishes we enjoyed:
Kadhai Murgh - Boneless chicken thigh pieces cooked with fresh vegetables in a tomato and cream sauce with Indian spices.
Vegetable Biryani - Steamed rice with vegetables, saffron, and Indian spices.
Dal Panchranga - A mix of five types of lentils and beans, cooked in a thick onion and tomato sauce, seasoned with roasted cumin and coriander.
Bhunna Gosht - Boneless lamb cooked in a tomato-based curry sauce with spices
Butter Naan - Triangular flatbread made from white flour and brushed with butter.
Garlic Naan - White flour flatbread flavored with garlic and butter.
Saag Masala Chicken and Lamb – Pieces of chicken and lamb cooked with onions, tomatoes, peppers, and ginger, served with jeera rice and saffron.
Aloo Masala Tikki: Potato patties served with salad and three types of chutneys - Mint Chutney (yogurt and mint), Sonth Chutney (two kinds of dates), and Mango Chutney (if I’m not mistaken).
