SLC22 -W2 Bakery Course: Types of dough
Hii friends. It's good to have you all here reading my blog. I'm taking part in this bakery course and types of dough. I love baking and I also love bread. Homemade bread tastes better than the one purchased in stores. So this activity affords me the opportunity to bake bread once again.
I've also learnt a lot such as the different types of flour and dough. I'm not a professional baker so I only knew the all purpose flour. However I've learnt the varieties of flour and I can now differentiate them. Read on!🤗
🥐 Of the types of dough presented in class, which one do you find most interesting and why?
I really like the Puff pastry dough.
Why I Like Puff Pastry Dough
It is very easy to work with: puff pastry dough and layers yet it is surprisingly easy to handle. It can be thawed, rolled out, and used in a variety of recipes.
It is Versatile: Puff pastry dough can be used both in sweet and savory dishes. It's more like “anything goes”.
It has a good texture: The flaky and especially the golden crust of puff pastry dough adds a touch of beauty to any bread, and makes it perfect for special occasions or entertaining guests.
It is Flavorful: The combination of buttery flavor and flaky texture creates a delicious taste.
🥐Make a sweet bread, you can follow the recipe given in class or try another one, but it must be sweet without any kind of filling, YES you can decorate it with whatever you want on top (candied fruit, chocolates, grated coconut, sugar, etc.) Document the step by step, and put the date, user and the class label on a poster
Ingredients for sweet bread
3 cups white sugar
1 cup butter or margarine
4 large eggs
Measuring cups and spoons
3 cups all-purpose flour
¼ teaspoon preservatives
Chocolate extracts and Browning
Sugar and margarine
Eggs
Measuring cups and spoons
Flour and Preservatives
1/4 spoonful of salt
Chocolate extract and Browning
First, I preheated the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
I made use of a manual oven which works well just like an electric one. It heated just fine and enough to bake the bread well.
Then I grease my pan. This will make the cake bread when baked to be removed smoothly within cutting into chunks. I used butter to grease the pan and a brush to oil all edges and ends completely.
Next, I measured one paint of flour. I am baking the cake bread for commercial purposes so I did it in large quantity
Next, I added my cream, sugar and butter together in a large bowl with a mixer until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition, with a cup of water, I emptied my flour inside and started mixing.
This cream is sticky and well made to mix with the dough.
Finally, I used the cream made earlier adding it in the dough, I carefully mixed it rubbing it on all parts, cutting chunks and mixing it all over so it circulates well I used my hand to mix the dough and I spent time in this process as I do not have a mixer, but it came out just fine.
Next make a liquid by adding the chocolate extract flavour and browning and a pinch if salt then then I added it to the mixed dough cut in many chunks.
Then I cut the dough into small chunks and arranged it well into the pan. Like I said it's for commercial purposes so it was really plenty.
I also made provision for a large bread and the little ones cut in chunks for different prices. This is the big one which is to be baked into a big bread
This is the little ones to be baked into small portions
Then, I baked it in the preheated oven until the top was golden and I inserted a toothpick into the center and when the toothpick came out clean, I knew it had been fully baked. It lasted for about an hour.
Then, I left it to cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes. Tap the pan firmly a few times, then shake it gently to loosen the cake and it came out smoothly because I had oiled the pan well earlier. Place a wire rack over the pan and invert to release cake onto the rack to cool completely.
Sweet bread is ready for consumption. It can be eaten with coffee, tea, milkshakes or any drink if your choice
It just goes perfectly well!
🥐Tell us about your experience making sweet bread, did you have any complications, who would you recommend the recipe to and why?
Well, I learnt baking from my mother who is a baker and so I really do not have any difficulty in the process. With her guidance I can understand it and bake sweet bread. However, I use my hand to knead the dough as we do not have a mixer so that poses a challenge as it saps one's strength making me feel exhausted, yet it is important to carefully mix the ingredients together with the bread and so I gave it my all knowing it would come out sweet in the end🤗
🥐Indicate the price in Steem of a sweet bread equal to the one you made. What is more feasible, making it or buying it? Explain
I think buying it is the best for me because it is cheaper than baking at home. It also depends on the quantity to be made. A large quantity will obviously be expensive than a smaller quantity.
Here in Nigeria, breads are of different prices. 500 naira =less than 2 steem, 2000 naira =6steem, 5000 naira= 14steem depending on one's preference and budget
These are the prices of this sweet bread in steem
Eggs = 4steem
Flour (8cups) = 16 steem
Salt 2steem
Chocolate extract and Browning = 5steem
Butter = 2steem
Sugar = 3steem
Total = 30steem
