Bowler's thumb is indeed the most common injury associated with ten-pin bowling. It's also known as sprained collateral ligament of the thumb and arises from the repetitive gripping and releasing of the bowling ball.

Here's what happens in bowler's thumb:

  • When you release the ball, the muscles and ligaments on the inside of your thumb get stressed, particularly the ulnar collateral ligament.
  • Over time, this repetitive stress can cause microscopic tears in the ligament, leading to inflammation, pain, and tenderness.
