Did you know you shed a complete layer of skin every 4 weeks
While it's true your skin is constantly renewing itself, it doesn't shed a complete layer every 4 weeks.
Here's the breakdown:
- Skin Renewal Cycle: This process, called desquamation, takes about 28 days (on average) for new skin cells to be produced at the lower layers and migrate up to the surface, replacing the older dead cells.
- Shedding: We do shed dead skin cells all the time, but they're microscopic flakes we don't typically notice. It's estimated we shed around 30,000 to 40,000 cells every minute!
So, while you aren't walking around in a month-old skin suit, your body is constantly working to keep your skin fresh and healthy.
