Contest #2: Advices to preserve the culture in Sri Lanka

in History and Culture4 years ago

Hi Steemit Community!

Most of sri Lankans behave according to the sri Lankan culture. Sri Lankan culture has a very long history and its very interesting. It has very religious influences. But with the development of modern technology and also due to the complex society, the culture in sri Lanka has been increasingly threatened. The concept of protecting our culture has become a less important factor in sri Lanka.

Most of the cultural practices aren’t carried forward these days and most of the people neglect our historical culture and live according to the western culture. Most of the traditional norms, ritual and practices have been destroying day by day. Specially due to the globalization, there is a bad impact on sri Lankan culture because sri Lankans are more towards the western culture. Not only that but also due the change of economical and social impact. But as sri Lankans we must protect our culture and we should carry it forward to our future generation since that is one of the sri Lankans’ identity.

Most of the sri Lankan young blood have lesser knowledge about our culture. So, in order to increase the awareness of cultural values, we can organize more cultural events, festivals in sri Lanka.so that will increase the knowledge of our culture. And also having a domestic legal framework in order to control the behavior of people in sri Lanka will decrease the bad behaviors of people which destroy our culture, especially for the foreigners who visit sri Lanka, there should be a control about how to behave in public.

Sri Lankans have very traditional tasty foods such as kevum, kokis, aggala etc. but most of sri Lankans are busy with their work life, so they have no time for the preparation of traditional foods. But if we can focus on those foods at free time, our younger generation also will know the taste of them and it will carry forward to our future generation also.

Most of us do not have a proper knowledge about our religious traditions. Religious traditions have a huge impact on our culture and it helps understanding their culture. Religion has a impact on their language, history and personal behaviour. Religion shows all the good and bad things and also how to behave ethically. Therefore, we should make our children participate in many religious events. Many aspects of culture are difficult to learn from books because it includes etiquette, body language and humor. Therefore, if we can spend our time with other members of the community, we can compare our culture with other cultures and get to know about what feels good and bad about our culture and even they will get to know about different cultures. And specially if we can speak our native language as much as possible it will also help to preserve our sri Lankan mother language.

As sri Lankans we should have a more focus on our traditional sri Lankan culture since It has been destroyed day by day. Otherwise our future generation will have no chance to experience the beauty of our sri Lankan culture but western culture. So we have a responsibility of protecting our culture. Being said that I must say each and every culture which has been practiced in different countries has their own believes, values. And every culture is beautiful and valued according to their perceptions. Therefore, we all should respect each and every culture in the world.
