What's Asthma? Write in your own words after getting knowledge from the lesson post

Asthma is a disease that is a type of respiratory problem. This problem is usually due to allergies, hereditary reasons or environmental reasons. Asthma is a long-term disease, a person suffering from asthma has to carry this disease for the rest of his life.

People who have allergic problems, such as allergies to certain foods, some people are allergic to beef, some people are allergic to beans, eggplant, vegetables, and some people are allergic to flowers, fur made of them, they may have asthma.

In the case of hereditary diseases, if there is an asthma disease of parents or a family, then a person gets asthma from there. In some cases, panic attacks, or asthma from stress.

Some symptoms of asthma: Difficulty in breathing,

  • Breathing heavily.
  • Expect noise while breathing.
  • Feeling heavy in the chest and feeling sick.
  • Also coughing while breathing

In the treatment of asthma, doctors can give inhalers to the patient which can bring immediate relief from shortness of breath, also tell the patient to avoid allergic foods and avoid allergens, steroid medicines, regular exercise and lifestyle changes. Asthma is a very difficult disease, which is a person who has to carry this disease throughout his life.

How would you diagnose a asthma? Any clinical investigation or assessment tests?

To diagnose asthma, first the patient's medical history should be taken, after taking the history, if it seems that the patient may have asthma, then medical checkup should be insured, in this case, first the patient history should be taken, whether the patient is breathing, whether there is coughing, whether there is a heavy feeling in the chest, whether the problem increases by eating allergic foods, etc.

If the patient has these problems, the next step is to have a medical checkup to become a SURE.
Such as

  • Spirometry: This test shows the normal functioning of the lungs.

  • PEF: This test checks how much air the lungs are able to expel air.

  • Allergy test: Allergy test is done through blood test.

  • Chest X-ray: Lung problems can be diagnosed through this.

  • Methacholine test: Asthma is diagnosed through the methacholine test.

If asthma is diagnosed through these tests, the disease is treated.

Try to practice at least 3 exercises that you have learned from the lesson. Share images, gifs or videos while practising.

1 st exercise

  • Pursed lip breathing exercise: This is a very simple and effective respiratory exercise. This exercise reduces shortness of breath, increases lung function, increases oxygen levels in the blood, and stress-free feels.

2nd exercise

3rd exercise

  • Chest Stretches: It is a very effective exercise, it plays a very important role in improving the process of breathing, increasing blood circulation, reducing stress, strengthening chest and back muscles.

Share your review after performing these exercises either on yourself, healthy individual or patient.

My experience of applying the exercises on myself is as follows.

As a result of applying these three exercises on myself, I felt comfortable to breathe. And I was feeling much more refreshed and stress free, earlier I used to feel short of breath while going up the stairs but after doing these exercises I felt a little less painful. This exercise also helped reduce my fatigue.

I conducted this exercise on a patient, who also felt less shortness of breath as a result of doing the exercise. He also felt stress-free. This exercise made him sleep better, his breathing was easier than before, and his body felt lighter. I think this exercise is beneficial for both healthy and sick.

Thank you for understanding the lesson and sharing your assignment; I hope that you will enjoy this week's lesson and try to implement it in your life if you see any such case.

Observations

Task 1 (2.7/3)
You have shared a great knowledge about asthma, and it's causes, symptoms, but you can also add it's types. A bit more depth require to complete the answer. I appreciate your effort.

Task 2 (2.8/3)
In the second question, you tell us about how you have to assess a patient by doing physical examination and history taking, performing the investigations of patients and specialized tests. But you can elaborate a bit more the special tests for better understanding. Good.

Task 3 (3/4)
You try the pursed lip, diaphragmatic breathing and chest stretch. You perform the chest stretch and diaphragmatic breathing in correct way. But you need improvement in pursed lip breathing as you have to inhale through nose and exhale by making a whistle like position of lips. Remember always take steam or nebulization before performing exercises to relax your muscles & dislodge sputum that can excrete out easily. I appreciate your efforts.

Overall you made a great attempt to answer all the questions. I appreciate your efforts. But next time try to avoid the above written suggestions. Keep learning and try to implement your knowledge to the people suffering from any asthma as winter is the trigger of most the people suffering from asthma. Thank you.
