The Tron Fan Club is a specialized community working on some specific topics. As a moderator of the community, I am regularly sharing several tutorials to help newbies. In this series of tutorials, I am trying to share the basic issues of Steem blockchain.

Curation reward distribution system has some mathematics. Earlier voting is profitable than late voting. I shall explain it with an example in this post.

If you vote on the Steem Blockchain, the reward of that vote may vary over time. So as a curator you need to have a clear idea about when to vote to earn more rewards by voting.

You all know that any post on Steemit platform takes seven days for payout. And since the blockchain creates a certain amount of blocks at a certain time, everything is perfectly controlled in time. The coding is set according to a time standard for voting on any post.

This period can be divided into three parts:

  • Zero to five minutes to post
  • Time from 5 minutes to 6 days 12 hours
  • Remaining time after 6 days and 12 hours

Basically your curation rewards will not be reduced if you have voted during the second slot. But if you voted in the first and third slot, the reward will be reduced. And whatever you lose on curation goes back into the reward pool, so you'll see that some posts don't have equal payouts for curation and authors.

If you vote as soon as post you will not receive any curation reward even if it is a $100 vote as 100% of your total curation earning will go into the reward pool. It will gradually drop from 100% to 0% in 5 minutes. So, after 5 minutes you will not lose anything. So if you vote within 5 minutes you will lose some amount of curation rewards even though you are voting a handsome amount. The same thing happens if you vote on a post after 6 days and 12 hours. In this case it will start from 0% and reach 100% in 12 hours.

Many people may not understand 100% to 0% or 0% to 100%. In fact, if you divide the 5 minutes from the beginning into 100 parts, then each part will take as long as 300 seconds / 100 = 3 seconds. After every 3 seconds, 1% less reward will go to the reward pool. You will lose curation accordingly. And in the last case, 100% in 12 hours means 1% in 7.2 minutes, thus the percentage will increase from 0 to 100%.

And if you don't understand too much then understand that you will not vote on any post within 5 minutes and after 6 days & 12 hours. And if you do, you will get a little less reward than you should have. This is simple.

You will see that the posts that get huge votes receive a lot of votes within the first five minutes. This is not subconscious rather intentional because there is another math of convergence linear equation here. It can be seen that small voters vote on good posts a little earlier than 5 minutes so that they can get a lot more curation than they were supposed to get from it if the big whales vote later. In fact, even if he loses some curation by voting before 5 minutes, he can get a lot more like a hundred times more reward. You will definitely get more curation if you vote earlier than big votes.

So two factors are very important for curation to generate more revenue. One is to vote by timing i.e. try to vote earlier and it must be after 5 minutes have passed. Second is to select those posts where there are big votes supposed to come on trending and quality posts.

Formula to calculate reward of any voter
= ½ ‌√a (√b-√c)
a= Total payout of the post
b = post payout reward shown after voting
c = post payout reward shown before voting

For example: Three users x, y, z voted 3 dollars each respectively then According to formula x will get 2.6 Dollar, y will get 1 Dollar, z will get 0.83 Dollar.

The half of the votes (9/2 = 4.5 Dollar) goes to curators but early voters get more.

Note: In the case of downvote, the matter is very similar. If a voter votes within 5 minutes or after 6 days and 12 hours, then there is a little change in the above formula.

When you vote first then your curation will be more and whoever votes later will get less curation but in this case you have to keep in mind the matter of first five minutes and last 12 hours.

DISCLAIMER

I have already shared similar tutorial in Bengali language in আমার বাংলা ব্লগ community. This post is not shared under Self Plagiarism but shared on this platform for educational purpose to maintain tutorial archive. Basically, Steem tutorial series posts are for the newbies in the Tron Fan Club community those who want to know about Steem Blockchain. Hopefully, they will find Steem basic tutorials sequentially at a single place. You can find here the post already shared in another language.

The weight is reduced because of the lack of Voting Power. If you vote for me as a witness, you can get my little vote.

These tutorials are very important for newbies like us, please share us more such important tutorials in future,

I understand your post today very well, which makes me very happy. But what makes me more happy is probably the other thing, even though I've been working here for a few days, I didn't know that there are often educational posts that can improve my understanding of Steemit. I really benefited from the post, I will read all the other posts one by one in my spare time. Thank you very much.
