What is sharding? Key Aspects of Sharding

in Tron Fan Club2 months ago

Sharding is one of the techniques that blockchain networks apply in a bid to reach better scalability and efficiency. The blockchain divides into small pieces running parallel to each other, called shards. This is because each shard works independently; hence, like chains, these can process their own set of transactions and smart contracts independently. As such, the network will be able to handle many more TPS than before.

Sharding Key Aspects:

Parallel processing :

Most blockchains conventionally require the processing and verification of all transactions by all nodes on the network. This mostly results in bottlenecks in the event of network growth. Sharding, therefore, saves this by distributing the workload where shards can at this point process the transactions parallel with other shards without congestion and hence increase the throughput of the network. Each shard is independently able to process some transactions.

Scalability:

Sharding greatly provides scalability by fragmenting the blockchain into manageable pieces. This is where each node on a network need not handle every single transaction but has to process only the transactions from the shard it is assigned to. This lets the blockchain scale horizontally to a larger user base and higher transaction volumes, without sacrificing performance.

Decentralization:

Sharding implies that work will be divided among the shards. In such a way, it enables more participants to validate transactions without investing in huge computational resources. Validators will process only the data concerning their shard; hence, making the network independent of powerful nodes.

Security:

While shard autonomy implies independence in their mode of operation, shards are nonetheless interconnected through the main chain, which at times is also referred to as a Beacon Chain. Because of the highly coordinated nature of the latter, the security assurance it extends keeps the whole network resistant, and not a single shard may become its weakest link.

In other words, sharding is one of the best scaling solutions that leaves blockchains intact with no damage to decentralization and security. Thus, it definitely will be a core component in the next generation of blockchain networks, such as Ethereum 2.0.

This is something that I have never heard before so I have saved this article that I will go through in detail to understand the entire mechanism and how it works.
