The Netherlands is not just Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam or Leiden. For those of you who are interested in exploring a city rich in history, Amersfoort is one of the options. Visiting this city, is like entering the passageway back to the Middle Ages, or before the 16th century.
This can be seen from the atmosphere in the middle of the city, building construction, monuments, and of course the museum. Located 42 km from Amsterdam, or about 34 minutes away by train, Amersfoort is part of Utrecht Province with a population of around 150 thousand inhabitants.
The name Amersfoort itself seems to sink when compared to other cities in the Netherlands, even among the domestic population itself, Amersfoort is better known as one of the transportation hubs, especially trains because many become transit points from one city to another because of its strategic location namely in the middle of the Netherlands.
When you take a walk in the beautiful center of Amersfoort, you will walk through centuries-old, well-maintained infrastructure.
Starting with Koppelpoort which is a combination of city gates and water gates, the only one in the Netherlands, which was built in 1425 AD, you can walk along the canal along a canal which if observed has a different building architecture compared to other cities in the Netherlands.
Almost all cities in the Netherlands have canals, because canals are the heart of life that serves as a transportation, drainage, defense to sewerage channel.
As an Asian student in the Netherlands, I am very happy to notice the architectural differences between one city and another. The older the city, the more I was hypnotized and walked a long way into small alleys to pay attention to how neat, beautiful and well-maintained the city was, as if it had not been eaten by the ages.
Of course, at the same time learn how they organize the city, provide infrastructure, maintain cleanliness and regulate tourism in order to be sustainable.
Amersfoort also has various museums such as The Mondrian House (birthplace of painter Piet Mondrian), Dutch Cavalry Museum (gallery of cavalry and Dutch military tanks), to Kunsthal which exhibits various modern or modern art.
Satisfied touring the city, you can stop at various cafes or restaurants in the middle of the city to rest just enjoy French fries while sipping coffee or warm chocolate with a typical atmosphere of Middle Ages, or Middle Ages, which is guaranteed to give a sensation of calm and peace amid the hustle and bustle of the hustle and bustle working in the current modern era.
Plus, if you visit in the summer like now, of course you will get a bonus sunshine and the beauty of the blue sky and low clouds typical of the European continent.
