Another day, another Spanish food post! Or rather, one of the things I love about Spain!!

I spent the better part of my afternoon today (2/3/2021) with a friend at a random Spanish restaurant called Macchiato! Like I have said before, it's nearly impossible to go through all the restaurants Madrid has to offer. Being a highly touristic destination, there's 100's if not 1000's of restaurants & bars to explore in Madrid. I'd definitely go to an different joint every day for an year if I wanted to. Problem is, I am very prone to going to the same place if I find something I like so much, whether it be food, drink, staff or the services. What can I say? I'm not hard to please!

Today, we decided to have some early tapas as we chatted away. I mostly liked the ambiance of the place, the tapas wasn't the best I've had, but it was great nonetheless.

Starter

Started of with the infamous Spanish Vermouth, which they served with a tortilla and a piece of bread.

Spanish vermouth is white wine that is fortified with herbs, spices, and botanicals, and then left to age in barrels until it is just right. Typically, vermouth has hints of cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, and finishes sweet, but not too much so. Bartenders will throw in a green olive or two and a slice of orange for more flavor and garnish. The Italians brought this drink to Catalonia in the 19th century and was a popular beverage until the 1970s after the reign of Franco ended. However, vermouth is making a comeback.

Main Dish

We hoped they'd have some actual food, you know like steaks, pasta, rice etc. But they explained that due to the #covid situation, they've had to close their kitchen to cut down costs, and also because they weren't making enough sales to sustain the restaurant. They are currently serving breakfast, sandwiches, breads/cakes and drinks.

We opted for a bagel sandwich, which had chicken, mushroom, cheese and a creamy sauce. To say it was super duper delicious would be an understatement!

A Few Moments Later...

We winded down our lunch date with a glass of red wine, which they brought over with some more tapas, as it is by Spanish standards! Sometimes if you don't want to order food, it's always recommended to go to a tapas bar. You're always guaranteed to leave fuller than you came in. Why isn't this a global rule again? It's just one of those things that just make sense!

The Ambiance

Probably not the best you guys have had. But I appreciate a silent space. I am not into loud bars/restaurants, unless it's a night club or something like that. I like spaces where I can be calm and not having to feel the need to shout in order to communicate. Quality is important. Here's a few photos of the space.
