RE: 2020 USA Olympic Marathon Trials {Atlanta, Georgia}

I cannot believe that the Atlanta games were 24 years ago. I should, though, because when I started a new job - both my boss and I were noobs - he had taken over from Gillian Maskell who was heading to Atlanta. There were two reasons: her fiance whose name escapes me was a leading light in organising the games and she was going to have some involvement, too.

So near and yet so far, hey?

What a fantastic experience I can imagine. And for Molly Seidel - what an achievement!

I was too young and uninterested unfortunately in 1996, though we had moved down to Atlanta three years prior so I was actually so close to be able to partake! My dad did manage to snag some tickets for a water polo match, I do believe. Crazy how time flies! Of course there was the unfortunate incident of the bombing, so I'm not upset to have missed that. Quite sad that violence seems to sneak its way into so many aspects of life.

I had no idea Molly had never competed in the marathon distance previously! Quite amazing to see Abdirahman holding his own among the young studs, as well. I'm sure there were so many more amazing stories in the pack, but I believe I might have run out of blockchain if I addressed them all... ;)

I remember the bomb. Awful. Funny how things turn out, hey? And funny that when Cape Town was bidding, I had some tangential involvement in that. And a former boyfriend was very involved with that.

Now there's a marathon challenge.... #justsaying ;)
