Perfect time for our local Florida Zoo -- animals missed us?

Our county zoo opened and of course we had to abide by the time limit invitations and social distancing and masking. However, this almost made the zoo a place of "your own".

It was scarcely crowded even at key animal exhibits and it was a perfect day to be there. I think even the animals were happy to see people in a way. They must have been curious as to what was going on with no people around.

I will say this, wearing a mask in mid-80's is not easy and it's not even summer yet. I can't imagine people masking up when it's more hot/humid.

Anyway, empty walkways for us :-)

We liked this part. It was easy to see whatever you wanted and the animals were out of bed and ready for breakfast.

More empty walkways....some silly guy thinks he owns the place :-)

Animals coming out and stopping along the way to take in a tree branch for a morning snack.

My favorites are the meerkats. They are so cute, so photogenic and it's amazing to watch them scurry around and as a group. They are always on the lookout for predators in the sky and take turns standing on alert for the family. They have a real life terrain for them where they feel quite at home.

I don't think the rhino's cared much to see us. I think you can tell by this photo. I called them over and they gave me this pose :-(

There are many other activities at the zoo. Kayaking, zipping on little wires over ponds filled with alligators...what could go wrong?

This is where you sign a piece of paper. I think it's your will and share how you will leave all your earthly belongings to next of kin if the angry crocodiles below happen to nab you from their creeks.

Half way thru you look down and say "what the hell am I doing, I can see at lest 4-5 huge crocodiles below me with with their eyes following me. It's even better if you wear a bright orange shirt and yellow helmet so the alligators can see you as well.

So many other animals around it's such a joy to look out in a wild pond and see mother nature at work....not in a cage.

As you can see, the zoo is well prepared for any zoo "protestors" or people that don't comply with their rules....lol.

They have pirates on patrol with fake swords with birds on their shoulders so everyone stays in line and doesn't get to close to each other.

Where is this sanctuary? It's the Brevard County Zoo in Melbourne Florida. Such a great zoo.Perfect size to walk and enjoy. Don't worry about the cannons and pirates, the virus will pass soon and people will be back to being on top of one another.

The word is there may be a space launch today. All this excitement after being held in captivity for so long. Normal life returning in the Sunshine State.

Thanks for reading.
