Hello people

Hope everyone reading here is fine!!! Feel so happy to write and share another experience of Mauritius island.

Did you know that we've got a lion mountain on the island???? But be careful guys, the mountain is not full of lions lol. It was given its name because it looks like a lion sitting far-off.

Just have a look at it !!!!!!

Did you see the Lion?????
Did you see the Lion?????

This is how the name was given and how the local people will try to explain how they see the lion lol, starting by the peak where you must see the head of the lion, followed by the back and the tail of the animal lol.

Lion mountain is situated in the south east of Mauritius island in the Bambous range. It is one of the most popular mountain and probably one of the last witness left of the Bataille of Vieux Grand Port which occurs in 1810.

The hike starts in the sugarcane fields, continues through the woods and then ends at the peak. It is about 2.5 hours each way and can be a bit challenging for those who are not used to. We were lucky to be accompanied by our family who know the trail.

Kindly note that professional local guides can also be booked; you can easily get lost if you're not confident to go alone.

This panoramic picture describes the view in the fields; we were lucky to be there after the sugarcane harvest and the view is absolutely STUNNING!!!!!!

This is an example of the road which leads us straight to the mountain. Getting closer to it means that the path also gets steeper and steeper.

THE VIEW

It was such a wonderful hiking day on the lion mountain and we really enjoyed it. If ever you wanna do it, we recommend you go with an adult or teenager, NOT WITH CHILDREN.

SECRET TIPS !!!!

There are also other spots in the village of Grand Port where you can take pictures of the mountain; if you don't want to climb on the "lion", THEN you can touch the tail of the lion :-)) (see picture below).
