Decentralized Systems are Imperfect ... and Imperfect ones eventually Fail. / I sistemi Decentralizzati sono Imperfetti .. e quelli Imperfetti alla fine Falliscono. [ ENG / ITA ]
Blockchain was born as the perfect technology at a time when our societies need new systems to prevent dishonesty increasingly widespread and in all economic, social and political sectors.
Those who have been in the world of cryptocurrencies for a while, know that this is the technology on which BITCOIN is based and thanks to it has spread and conquered the digital asset sector and gradually every economic, productive, commercial sector.
But why do we like this Blockchain so much?
Apart from the advantages from a technological point of view, we like the Blockchain because it wants to challenge the traditional systems of state authority, citizenship and democracy.
Bitcoin itself was born to challenge the absolute power of banks, showing that they are not indispensable and that through digital assets it is possible to make transactions without intermediaries.
It is clear that the Blockchain does not have to do with politics, it does not want to disown the power of states that maintain their role as a reference and coordination point in civil society, it just wants to bring a more secure, immutable and permanent data sharing system, precisely through its distributed consensus systems.
And precisely the consensus algorithm is an essential element of Blockchain technology!
All that is needed is an open network in which its participants interact with each other without necessarily knowing or trusting each other, ensuring the functioning of all nodes in the system, then cryptographic algorithms do the rest, verifying and recording electronic transactions.
Is this enough to make a decentralized system a perfect mechanism?
Theoretically of course it is unassailable and even I was fascinated by the principles behind the creation of this technology, same thing for Bitcoin, I have always cheered for David against Goliath, the idea of countering the powerful who have always managed the world economy redistributing wealth in a non-partisan and fair way.
I did point out, though, that theoretically the Blockchain is unassailable!
Because then there is always some way to cheat consensus or data.
Then again, how many cases do you hear of codes with bugs that have allowed hackers to steal millions of dollars in cryptocurrencies or get hold of a company's data base.
Certainly the more decentralized Blockchain manages to ensure that data is not tampered with, but can it guarantee that it is also true?
Is the person entering the data trustworthy?
But the topic is broad and I can't deal with it, better left to the technophilosophers of the Blockchain, I continue to support the effectiveness of that mathematical mechanism known as proof-of-work that makes human intervention increasingly superfluous.
What I don't agree with is only the human aspect, which makes me doubt the functioning of a decentralized system.
Take for example the case of a Blockchain in which there are witnesses guarantors of its democratic functioning, as well as the users of the system themselves are guarantors because they contribute to make it alive, honest, fair and equitable.
How can an almost perfect system not work?
If something were to go wrong or there were any improprieties or irregularities, its witnesses would intervene immediately!
For example, in a blogging platform based on Blockchain technology I would never expect to find irregularities, I imagine that all bloggers would start to get indignant writing posts to justify their reasons, urging witnesses to act and maybe openly supporting those who are being abused.
In short, in such a platform no one would look the other way, because indifference would mean being accomplices of those who use the system to their own advantage.
And yes..
Steemit remains a great project, of course it is imperfect because it has a human component and often the greed of a few can compromise the genuineness of the majority.
But I'm sure it can still evolve and improve, it depends on all of us and what direction we want it to take because if in an imperfect system you don't find the right balance sooner or later it will lose the trust and consensus of its users and at that point its disintegration, perhaps slow and exhausting, will be inevitable.

La Blockchain nasce come la tecnologia perfetta, in un momento in cui le nostre società hanno bisogno di nuovi sistemi per prevenire la disonestà sempre più diffusa e in tutti i settori economici, sociali e politici.
Chi è nel mondo delle cripto valute da un po' di tempo, sa che si tratta della tecnologia su cui si basa BITCOIN e grazie ad esso si è diffusa e ha conquistato il settore degli asset digitali e via via ogni settore economico, produttivo, commerciale.
Ma perché ci piace tanto questa Blockchain?
A parte i vantaggi da un punto di vista tecnologico, la Blockchain ci piace perché vuole sfidare i sistemi tradizionali dell'autorità statale, della cittadinanza e della democrazia.
Bitcoin stesso è nato per mettere in discussione il potere assoluto delle banche, dimostrando che non sono indispensabili e che attraverso gli asset digitali è possibile effettuare transazioni senza intermediari.
E' chiaro che la Blockchain non ha a che fare con la politica, non vuole disconoscere il potere degli Stati che mantengono il loro ruolo come punto di riferimento e di coordinazione nella società civile, vuole solo portare un sistema di condivisione dei dati più sicuro, immutabile e permanente, proprio attraverso i suoi sistemi di consenso distribuito.
E proprio l'algoritmo del consenso è elemento essenziale della tecnologia Blockchain!
E' sufficiente un network aperto in cui i suoi partecipanti interagiscono tra loro senza necessariamente conoscersi o fidarsi reciprocamente, garantendo il funzionamento di tutti i nodi del sistema, poi gli algoritmi crittografici fanno il resto, verificando e registrando le transazioni elettroniche.
Basta questo a rendere un sistema decentralizzato un meccanismo perfetto?
Teoricamente certo è inattaccabile e anche io sono rimasta affascinata dai principi che ci sono dietro la creazione di questa tecnologia, stessa cosa per Bitcoin, ho sempre tifato per Davide contro Golia, l'idea di contrastare i potenti che gestiscono da sempre l'economia mondiale ridistribuendo la ricchezza in modo non parziale ed equo.
Però ho sottolineato che teoricamente la Blockchain è inattaccabile!
Perché poi c'è sempre qualche modo per raggirare i consensi o i dati.
D'altronde quanti casi si sentono di codici con bug che hanno permesso agli hacker di rubare milioni di dollari in cripto valute o di entrare in possesso del data base di un'azienda.
Certo la Blockchain più decentralizzata riesce a garantire che i dati non siano manomessi, ma può garantire che siano anche veritieri?
Chi inserisce i dati è affidabile?
Ma il discorso è ampio e non posso affrontarlo io, meglio lasciarlo ai tecnofilosofi della Blockchain, io continuo a sostenere l'efficacia di quel meccanismo matematico conosciuto come prova di lavoro o proof-of-work che rende sempre più superfluo l'intervento umano.
Quello che non mi torna è soltanto l'aspetto umano, quello si che mi fa dubitare del funzionamento di un sistema decentralizzato.
Prendi per esempio il caso di una Blockchain in cui ci siano dei witness garanti del suo funzionamento democratico, così come gli utilizzatori stessi del sistema ne sono garanti perché contribuiscono a renderla viva, onesta, corretta ed equa.
Come fa a non funzionare un sistema quasi perfetto?
Se qualcosa non dovesse andare o si riscontrassero delle scorrettezze o delle irregolarità, interverrebbero immediatamente i suoi witness!
Per esempio in una piattaforma di blogging basata sulla tecnologia Blockchain non mi aspetterei mai di riscontrare delle irregolarità, immagino che** tutti i blogger comincerebbero ad indignarsi** scrivendo post per motivare le loro ragioni, sollecitando i witness ad agire e magari supportando apertamente coloro che stanno subendo un abuso.
Insomma in una piattaforma del genere nessuno si girerebbe dall'altra parte, perché l'indifferenza significherebbe essere complici di coloro che usano il sistema a proprio vantaggio.
E già..
Steemit rimane un grande progetto, certo è imperfetto perché ha al suo interno una componente umana e spesso l'avidità di pochi può compromettere la genuinità della maggioranza.
Ma sono sicura che può ancora evolversi e migliorarsi, dipende da tutti noi e quale direzione vogliamo fargli prendere perché se in un sistema imperfetto non si trova il giusto equilibrio prima o poi perderà la fiducia e il consenso dei suoi utilizzatori e a quel punto il suo disfacimento, magari lento ed estenuante, sarà inevitabile.

Post eccellente... la blockchain è imperfetta, ma puó creare un sistema finanziario migliore di quello attuale
