Derbent. View of the city from the walls of the Naryn-Kala fortress. Historians and archaeologists say that Derbent is the oldest city on the territory of the Russian Federation. The age of the city is estimated at 5000 years. To be more precise, this is the age of the fortress, and the city was founded 2000 years ago.

At the foot of the fortress is the oldest part of the city. As we walked along these small narrow streets, the streets of the old Jewish quarters of Barcelona came to my mind. At first, I thought they were just garages, but it turned out that people live in these structures. This is entirely different from what I have seen in Russia itself. It's like another country. However, Dagestan has resisted and waged war with the Russian Empire for 100 years.
And although it is now Russia, but the culture of the Caucasus is very different from other regions, the most important thing is religion.

У подножия крепости находится самая старая часть города. Когда мы шли по этим маленьким узеньким улочкам, то у меня в памяти всплывали улочки старых еврейских кварталов Берселоны. Я сначала подумал, что это просто гаражи, но оказалось, что в этих сооружениях живут люди. Это совершенно не похоже на то, что я видел в самой России. Это словно другая страна. Хотя, Дагестан 100 лет оказывал сопротивление и вел войну с Российской Империей. И хотя это теперь Россия, но культура Кавказа сильно отлична от других регионов, самое главное - религия.

The old Armenian cemetery. Derbent is a multinational city. In different years, it was ruled by different peoples. And the most interesting thing is that all these old cemeteries are active. Funerals in Dagestan are a special story. You may not come to weddings, but the whole big family should gather for the funeral, all relatives should be there, otherwise, there may be disrespect for those who are absent. This turned out to be the main factor in the rapid spread of covid in Dagestan. All grave monuments are made of a special stone. We passed the places where this production is deployed.

Старое армянское кладбище. Дербент - это многонациональный город. В разные годы им правили разные народы. И самое интересное, все эти старые кладбища являются действующими. Похороны в Дагестане - это особая история. Ты можешь не приехат на свадьбы, но на похороны должна собраться вся большая семья, должны быть все родственники, иначе может быть неуважение к отсутствующим. Именно это оказалось основным фактором быстрого распространения ковида в Дагестане. Все могильные памятники делаются из особого камня. Мы проезжали места, где развернуто это производство.

Пока мы гуляли по территории крепости, пока гид рассказывал нам её историю, наступила темнота. И, конечно, все мы сделали на память фотографии ночного Дербента.
