This is not an application for participation in the competition. Unfortunately, I cannot be a participant due to known reasons. But I can't stay away either. With this post I support the idea of the contest and just make an attempt to fulfill its requirements.

So let's get started without further ado. We are located on the territory of the Peter and Paul Fortress in St. Petersburg (Russia). And I want to photograph the architectural dominant of this fortress - the cathedral of the same name. The height of the spire of the Peter and Paul Cathedral is 122.5 meters. My wide angle lens OKS 1-22-1 copes with this task, but...when shooting from the bottom up, significant geometric distortions are obtained, the walls of the cathedral are trying to converge at the top point..

Then I take two consecutive pictures from the bottom up and then on the computer I stitch them into a vertical panorama. At the same time, the distortions are insignificant and they are easily corrected in the image editor.

Это не заявка на участие в конкурсе. К сожалению, я не могу быть участником в силу известных причин. Но я не могу и остаться в стороне. Этим постом я поддерживаю идею конкурса и просто делаю попытку выполнить его требования.

Итак приступим без лишних слов. Мы находимся на территории Петропавловской крепости в Санкт-Петербурге (Россия). И я хочу заснять архитектурную доминанту этой крепости - одноимённый собор. Высота шпиля Петропавловского собора 122,5 метра. Мой широкоугольный объектив ОКС 1-22-1 справляется с этой задачей, но...при съёмке снизу-вверх получаются значительные геометрические искажения, стены собора пытаются сойтись в верхней точке..

Тогда я делаю два последовательных снимка снизу-вверх и затем на компьютере сшиваю их в вертикальную панораму. При этом искажения незначительные и они легко исправляются в редакторе изображений.

Then I changed the lens. I was interested in the details of this cathedral. I installed a SONY 55-210 telephoto lens. Despite its relative simplicity and budget, the quality of shooting with it suits me quite well. I don't shoot for glossy magazines :)

It's a darker lens, but the day was sunny. And to avoid smudging when shooting, I increased the shutter speed to 1/400 sec.

And at the end I want to show a vertical picture and explain why I had to make a panorama. After leveling the vertical (I took it along the spire of the cathedral), I had to correct the perspective (you see how the lines of buildings converge at an angle at the top, it's not very beautiful).

When correcting through transformation, the image stretches (the cathedral becomes visually taller), but the trouble is that you may not have enough stock from above and part of the building will be cut off. In the second picture, there is almost no space left on top, and the walls have not yet fully straightened out. In this case, the panoramic option helps.

And finally, I wanted to do even deeper processing of the image. In addition, it slightly masks the blockage of vertical lines.
