Strangers

If you look at her passing by she will seem like an ordinary girl, with her shy smile and average looks, you might not even give a second thought to her, but she had some savage skills up her sleeves to which Gia was really proud of. It took her a lifetime to come up with them, she liked to read people. She notices the small things about them which others sometimes miss.

Currently the new guy in the building in front of hers was her new obsession, he seemed like a person who had all his life figured out to him. What strike her the most about him was when on their first meet when they had the eye contact he didn’t smile at her or anything but had a strange look on his face with cold eyes, later on Gia found out he lives in the building next to hers and can overlook his apartment form hers. Gia’s curiosity got hold of her and she started to follow his routine.

He seemed like an average guy with his routine gets up around 8, drinks his coffee, takes a bath and leaves for work which she assumed by 9. Comes home, checks his mail, and jogs on his treadmill while watching old shows. Lost in his mobile while having dinner sometimes he gets a call around dinner which he gets on his burner cell which she once again assumed must be from his wife or girlfriend cause he definitely seemed like the guy who might have a family, may be in another city. If it was not for her first encounter she wouldn’t even have noticed him because he seemed like a boring family guy.

Next time they met when she was hurriedly going to her dentist appointment he waved at her across the street and they got into talking, he invited her over to his place, she never accepts such invitations but for once she let her guard down as she never gets involved with guys who were already in a relationship. She promised to have a cup of coffee with him, they exchanged the numbers and left for their destinations. One day she got a call from him at night which was probably around the time he got home to remind her of her promise, Gia told him she’ll be at his apartment in 15 minutes.

Gia went to his apartment and rang the bell to which he responded almost immediately, welcoming her with his infectious smile, they started talking about random things as apparently they had nothing in common, few minutes later he gets a call on his burner as usual she thought, he excused himself which gave Gia a moment to think why would a guy like him carry a burner maybe he is having an affair and to hide from his wife.

Few minutes later she heard a sound she was familiar with, she turned around to face him and to her surprise he was holding a Beretta 9mm pistol with silencer on and was pointing at her, for a moment she didn’t understand what was happening that was till he started talking. “Aren’t you a bit surprised to see a guy like me with a gun Gina”, he sneered. A cold surge went down her spine as no one had called her Gina in a long time. “You thought you were the one figuring me out but it was me at your tail all this time, it’s nothing personal it’s just that you have a large bounty over your head and I’m here to claim it or have you forgotten about your time as an assassin Gina and have started to live this plain life of Gia”, he smirked.

Gia told him that she has left her past behind her to which he started laughing and said, “There is no such thing as leaving the past behind you, your past follows you wherever you may go”. He was about to pull the trigger but they heard a bang outside Gia quickly draw out her gun which she never leaves her home without old habits die hard and shot him in his leg and took cover behind the couch. He screamed, cursed and shot in air and was totally surprised by this change of event. He was on the floor holding his leg while his gun was lying on the floor. Gia quickly managed to get hold of his gun, and shot him this time straight to his head and left the apartment.

In her own apartment, she looked at her already packed suitcase as she was once again ready to disappear, sadly looking at her remainders of a normal life. She was once again on the move as he was right she was but an assassin.
