My Golden Sunset (3rd Painting)

Since we cannot travel to capture amazing sceneries of different landscapes and seascapes, I decided to paint one as my way to practice my skills in painting. Materials used and painting process are written below.

I painted sunset for I am really fascinated with sunsets. I’ve been to different places and witnessed different beauty of sunsets. Now, I made my own thru this painting, my 3rd watercolor painting.

By the way, I watched different basic tutorials on how to paint sunsets as my references, before proceeding to make this painting.

Materials Used:

• Watercolor paper
• Watercolor
• Masking Tape
• Watercolor palette
• Round and Bright Brushes
• Water

Painting Process:

1. I started preparing my watercolor paper by putting masking tape for margin, and brushing my paper with water using bright medium brush.

2. I tried mixing possible colors that I’ll be needed to make a golden sunset. I used shades of yellow, pink, red orange, white, and orange for the colors of the sun and sky.

3. I colored white first at the center for the sun. Next was color light yellow and yellow, blending near the white sun using small round brush. Mixed of pink and orange for the lower part of the sky. Lastly, the red orange for the darker parts of the sky. I also added masking tape at the lower center of the paper for the division of mountains and the sea.

4. I used the tip of the small round brush to paint the silhouette of the leaves of coconut tree. For the coconut tree color, I used light brown and darker shade of brown by adding little amount of black.

5. Then, I painted the mountains by using different and darker shade of brown. I made the center mountain lighter than the sides to make it look like reflecting from the sun.

6. I removed the masking tape at the lower center, and used it as my cover to the mountains.

7. Now I painted the lower part with almost same shade colors that I used to paint the sky part, but a little darker, using medium bright brush.

8. Last detail would be the reflection of the sun in the water using color white. I waited for the lower part to dry up before adding the white detail so it would not blend. Then, I carefully removed all the masking tape and added my signature.
