The first thunderstorm in Vologda

in WORLD OF XPILARlast month

Here comes the first May thunderstorm! I went outside just to take a walk and take pictures of the street, but it turned out that I got a photo essay about a thunderstorm with a downpour.

It all started as standard: a dark blue cloud was approaching the city, then the wind increased and it poured from the sky.

I already have experience of reporting heavy rain.

You need to choose a place with heavy traffic of people, hide under the roof and shoot.

Any intersection with shops is suitable for this.

You can even change locations by running to opposite sides of the street.

A downpour usually ends quickly, but leaves behind huge puddles and even whole streams of rainwater.

If you talk about a thunderstorm, then you need to shoot both before and after.

It would be ideal if lightning hits the frame, but this is already a random stroke of luck...which has already happened to me.

Stormwater drainage in the historical center of the city does not always cope with such volumes of water, so sidewalks and even streets are often flooded.

My first teacher said that you need to be a fan of photography to succeed.

Now I understand what he meant.

I would call it greed, restlessness, insatiable hunger.

If it weren't for the constant time limit, I wouldn't have left the street after the rain and would have been capturing until I was "sick."

I have already described this state when you squeeze all the juices out of enthusiasm, use all the fuse and even a little more, until there is disgust from the process.

I think that's what my first photography teacher meant.

Therefore, if there is time, then I work out the plot or the given topic to the end.

There is another difficulty – how not to repeat yourself?

On the one hand, if you need an urgent photo report about a thunderstorm, then I already know the locations where the streets are flooded and where to shoot people.

On the other hand, it takes time to search for non-repetitive plots.

Reportage photography is highly complex and very multifaceted...
