[ENG|ESP] Forest shelter update #2 | Actualización del refugio en el bosque
My muscles are tired and my back aches, but my soul is happy and growing. For the last week I've been making daily advances on my forest shelter and little by little it's taking shape. Perhaps you will not be impressed by what is visually displayed on this post, but I know how much work it has taken me to make openings in the forest so I can get usable branches, as well as carrying them to the building spot.
Mis músculos están cansados y me duele la espalda, pero mi alma está feliz y en crecimiento. Durante la última semana he ido avanzando a diario en mi refugio del bosque y poco a poco va tomando forma. Quizás no te impresione lo que se muestra visualmente en esta publicación, pero sé cuánto trabajo me ha costado hacer aberturas en el bosque para poder obtener ramas utilizables, así como llevarlas al lugar del edificio.

This first picture is just showing the pillars finally in place after burning the base to prevent them from rotting too quickly:

I put that little frame to mark the place where the rocket stove will come out of the shelter. The idea is for the smoke to go through a little bench that will be a nice warm place to sit in:

Ok, so it can't be all just hack, slash and hammer branches. I've been playing around a bit with plants as well. I placed some cuttings of a native plant called calafate (berveris microphylla) and to the right is a hard to spot cutting of a rosemary plant. So far they're looking good and let's hope they stay that way:

This is a cutting of the native tree nothofagus antartica, locally known as ñire. I'm really interested in recovering the native forest of this place as it has been cut down and replaced with willow and poplar, which are fine but don't give the same ecosystemic benefits as well as mushrooms that the natives produce here:

Rosehips were introduced here but I like all the things you can make out of them so I'll allow some to grow:

Garlic does quite well in this area so I placed some sprouted bulbs in the ground:

It might be hard to see but there are two rows of crossbars and the idea is to fill in the gaps with a mixture of clay, mud, ashes, horse dung and hay. I don't know how this combination will do but I have a lot of faith in it.
