Few thoughts by a non-local - Imprinted by LightCaptured

To be able to bike almost everywhere in a big city is, in my humble opinion, a sign of a prosperous society where the citizens are valued for their contribution to that same society.

Ride to the college (that is the private bicycle parking of King's College in Cambridge, England, UK) or leave your bike outside worry-free; or bike to the church service.

Not only good for the personal health but also for the city environment. Less air pollution and better wellbeing!

It is no surprise England is one of the countries that attracts many immigrants and that isn't only for the bigger salaries!

Now, while rambling the city streets and passing that bridge, I slowed down and spent few moments observing and of course, photographing those boats.

Recently I saw someone famous on the new rowing a similar boat at exactly the same location.
I was doing something else at the moment so my attention wasn't fully at the TV at the time. I think it was either Justin Timberlake or Russell Crowe. Can't tell with absolute certainty.

Anyway. My though here was the way they row them, similarly to the gondoliers in Venice and I've seen this also at lake Bled in Slovenia.

I don't know the exact reason here but everywhere else, it's not just the romance, it is that engines are forbidden. Noise, pollution, you name it. Prohibiting progress in some areas is good for everyone.

I suppose you will agree with me that if that was in one of the countries called "developing" all those boats would have had motors.

Hopefully next time I have more time and hire one, it always gives a different angle to a city!

Prohibiting progress in some areas is good for everyone.

I had never thought about it, but it really is true, progress often makes us sick, pollutes, even slows down our personal development, reduces our quality of life - the exact opposite of what it should be and probably intended to be. Many of the things that the developed countries have already given up are still coming to Bulgaria, as something thrown away, leftovers that still need to be used, but there is no place anymore in the countries where people's consciousness is developing 50 years faster than that of the people in Bulgaria. A lot of the so-called developed stuff. So whenever something is trendy or talked about a lot, it's expensive and everyone wants to have it, I always wonder if it won't be denied and rejected in a few years. Like electric cars, for example. The bicycles are a different thing, of course. I think it will never go out of fashion, nor will it be a controversial invention ever.
But of course, in an undeveloped country like Bulgaria, it is dangerous to be a pedestrian, and to be a cyclist is even more dangerous. That's why you're right with your theory about the prosperous society.
These are very special boats, indeed. They are not similar to gondolas, probably some local invention. But are cool because they look touristy and carry tourists in this eco-friendly way. It really is a prosperous society!

Glad that you see what I saw.
True, and I should also add the element of respect.
People respecting and helping each other, that in my opinion, forms a strong and healthy society.

Also a sign of a prosperous one, because when people respect each other and help each other, businesses are good for people too, and not only for bringing profits to the shareholders.

It's a win-win and when more people travel around the world, they see it and try to implement it where they live.

So sooner or later, Bulgaria will be there too, or at least, on that road, hopefully!

Thank you! :)

People respecting and helping each other...

Well, that's the main issue here in my opinion. There is no respect and no mutual aid upon which to stand the foundation upon which society should be built. Yes, the people who come back, if they come back, are those torchbearers on whose shoulders rests all the hope of the people. But you know, there are also people here like me who have returned from abroad and have been literally crushed again by the terrible reality. I could not bring any torch, rather, I brought one, but it was quickly extinguished. So, not all torches endure and even hope is not that strong. I don't know why now I remember some words of some young Slovenians who had come to visit Bulgaria, I was with them in a disco in the capital when the bartender tried to cheat them on the bill and I will never forget the words of one boy - "is this your way of doing business?" They summed it all up.And I have to tell you that the anger I felt then has not changed until today, things have not changed much. And I don't believe they will change in the next few decades either.

О, да, почти Венеция, гондольеры, серенады ...
только гондолы немного другие и "пассажиры" закутаны в пледы )))
Но всё равно красиво)

In a way, this part of the city is better than Venice :) What nobody tells about Venice is the smell.
Some canals... I needed a gas mask :D

С учётом того, что в Венеции отсутствует канализация и вся надежда на приливные течения ... как я тебя понимаю 🖐🤣
Но ведь всё равно красиво там )
