Steemit Engagement Challenge WOX Community S6W3: Drawing Trees
Drawing a Plantain Tree
In this tree drawing challenge organized by the world of Xpilar community, I would like to present my pencil sketch, and the tree I am selecting here is a plantain tree.
Plantain is a herbaceous flowering plant that looks like the banana tree. I selected the plantain because the whole tree has a countable number of leaves and we have some at the back of my house so I can look at it when drawing.
Needed Materials |
---|
To draw the plantain tree, I will use a piece of plain paper (A4) as my canvas.
• A4 plain paper |
---|
• A Pencil |
• An Eraser |
• The plantain tree |
• Nokia C30 (Camera) |
The Finished Drawing |
---|
The Steps and Stages It took |
---|
Step 1
I got a plain-blank A4 paper which I signed with my steemit identity. I also added today's date as a confirmation that it is a new drawing.
Step 2
The drawing starts with the plantain leaves and I needed to add more leaves to it.
Step 3
This leaves allowed it's midrib to show which is always the case with new plantain leaves that has just unfolded. They are tender and very flexible with a lighter shade of green on this almost translucent broad leaf.
Step 4
We now have some older leaves that has been slit by strong wind, the older the leaves the more cuts it has. The leaves are greener and loose it's flexibility and becomes tough.
Step 5
At this point, I will be drawing the plantain stem and some old dried leaves resting on the stem down to its ball like base.
Step 6
After sketching, this is the point where things could get off the course, it's time to shade the plantain tree.
I tried to maintain a light source for uniform shading. And now my plantain tree is ready.

HI @manuelhooks, yes, I agree it was not withdrawn but it was transferred to other user for contests and it was not Powered up by you. But it does not make any change for the participation in challenge.

Wahoo, this drawing is wonderful and your drawing steps are so clear and neat. It looks like the real plantain tree. Best luck.
Greetings friend @manuelhooks
Excellent work, very well done this palm tree, you have shown good skill in the art of drawing.
Thank you for joining the contest,
gracias
You have talent! I love the foreshortening of the leaves and that each is unique.
I suggest drawing on a straight surface and not lean strongly on the paper.
Such a beautiful drawing should not be on a crumbled paper.
Again, very good job!
I will try to work on the nature of my paper, it was due to numerous use of the eraser.
Oh, so use the eraser in opposite direction from the hand that is holding the paper.
Thank you for the lesson, I always did it wrong, I erased in a zig zag manner and never thought of this. Thank you very much.
My pleasure!
I will appreciate more useful tips.
At the high level you draw the structure, the next step is to fill it with brightness values, and erase the lines.
There are no lines in nature!
So you start with a structure:
Then you draw from one side to another, or top to bottom.
While all the time look how dark or light each area is. If you made it too light, you make it darker, and vice versa.
At the end, you just have brightness values (dark and light areas), but NO lines.
Thank you for this lesson.
I always knew my shading was defective, I knew it only looked good but was not professional, the outline was to be removed but I instead made it heavier.
I used to draw a faint circle around the area I plan to give a darker shading but now I know better thanks to you.
My pleasure.
Maybe you'd like this guide. Pay attention to values (brightness values), and edges.
