Remembrance
I was the one who begged in the streets
And I was the one who dwelled in Royal Halls;
On the marble with ogival curves
I was the one who placed her pale hands...
So many poets sang of me in their verses!
I spun the linen at the doorsteps of homes...
I went to discover India and never
Returned! I was that ship that did not return...
I have a dark, Lusitanian profile,
And green eyes, the color of the green Ocean,
A mermaid born of navigators...
Everything dissolves into grey mists...
Ah, how I wish to be those I once was,
The ones I remember having been... long ago!...
