Steemit Engagement Challenge WOX Community S6W1: Lily, Flower In My LifesteemCreated with Sketch.

in WORLD OF XPILAR2 years ago (edited)

If writing is painting ideas through writing, then painting is writing ideas through pictures. I like to draw black and white photos. Back when I was in boarding school, I learned to draw dark and light on HVS paper. But because I don't often hold HVS pencils and paper anymore, these skills are increasingly fading.

This contest invites me to re-sharpen the skills I once had. I took a pencil and sharpened the tip. Then look for erasers, rulers, tissues and HVS paper to put ideas in the form of paintings. Today, I will draw a pink flower. I will conjure this flower into black and white on a piece of paper.

This image is my original photo. I chose a photo of pink lilies. Pink symbolizes tenderness, elegance and happiness. Drawing is a way of releasing the most beautiful emotions. It is the result of my painting. Alright, here are the steps!

Material for painting

  1. HVS paper
  2. Eraser
  3. 2B pencil
  4. Wipes
  5. Photos

How to do it:

  • I started by dragging the fine lines to sketch out the flower shape first. This method has made it easier for me to complete a black-and-white painting of a lily flower. The pencil tip is very pointed. And I don't put too much pressure on the pencil lead. It seemed to just fly on paper.

  • In this step, I formed a more defined floral layer pattern. The pencil tip is slightly wider than before. I shade one direction gently.

  • To make the shadows clearer, I use a tissue and rub it over the areas where it's needed.

  • At this step, I still use a 2B pencil too. This pencil really helped me highlight the dark side of this lily painting.

  • On some parts that look too dark, I use an eraser to make them lighter. Eraser and tissue helped me in making this black-and-white photo of lilies look more alive.

  • In the last step, to make this image look more contrast, I made the left frame side of this painting a bit darker.

Thus my participation post for the contest-themed Steemit Engagement Challenge WOX, S6 W1: Flowers in our life. I invite @asiahaiss, @kyrie1234, and @nahela to participate in this contest. Thanks to all Steemian friends and Steemit Team who have supported me. I appreciate it.

Really enjoy the way you've created some lost edges toward the middle of the flower, it really lets the detail of the stamen come forward.

I feel like the stem might not be that thick but it could be an artistic choice. I also think there could've been some opportunity to add a bit more shading and hard edges around where the petals overlap to give the flower more dimension.

At the end there I really like how you leaned in to create even more details and the border frame is a really nice finishing touch. Nice work!

Thanks for your input. I haven't drawn in a long time. There have been many tips and tricks on black and white drawing that have been forgotten. Your comment reminds me of some tricks I've used. I appreciate it.

Nice one.
I would add cast shadows from the top petals on the bottom petals (decide on a light source). It will give your flower more depth.
You have done well with smudging.

Hi @nadiaturrina!
Thanks for taking part in this challenge.
Well done, you achieve the resemblance to the flower you have used as a reference with clean and confident strokes but at the same time the lines are soft and delicate. The curved stem breaks the static position of the flower, giving it harmony and movement.
Congratulations!

I am glad to hear that. Thanks for the wise comment. I'm still learning to draw in black and white. And this is very extraordinary. It calmed me down. 🥰🥰🥰

Black and white is indeed a good art and very difficult for me. Because this art needs perfection of pencil and control of pencil. Just a mistake and sketches being ruined. Best of luck.
