Recently, Andriy Shevchenko became the coach of Genoa, the team of the Italian Serie A. This invisible news for Europe became the top in Ukraine. This is not surprising, because Shevchenko is an idol of an entire generation, and until recently he was the coach of the national team.

In this article I will not describe the news itself and what preceded it. You can read this in any sports news. Here I want to share my thoughts.

So, the operation "sell yourself successfully" was successful, but not very much. Why do I say that? Let's see what Shevchenko is like as a coach. To grow into the coach of the national team, Shevchenko trained and coached ... stop ... well, he didn't train anyone. He was just Shevchenko, whom everyone loved.

Therefore, to determine which Shevchenko as a coach, we can look at his work in the national team. What has changed with the arrival of Shevchenko? The style of play has changed, that's for sure. The team became more in control of the ball, but this control was mainly about keeping the ball in their own half of the field. In most matches, it was beneficial. By controlling the ball, the team slowed down and did not allow the opponent to build their attacks. But the team has improved so much in this element of the game that even after losing by four goals to England, the Ukrainian players persistently controlled the ball in their own half of the field. I imagine how @ sporting-gorilla made fun of the Ukrainian national team :) I did it too.

In general, Shevchenko often used tactics, changed the lineup and formation. But it is a national team. Some players are available to you today, others tomorrow. The situation in the club is a bit different, the teams stick to one formation more.

Shevchenko's undoubted success was the creation of a good atmosphere in the team. Thanks to it, the team managed to reach the quarterfinals of the European Championship.

After the Championship, Shevchenko stated several times that he would stay in the national team and leave after the World Cup. But the team did not start as successfully as in the European Championship. Failure in the qualifying round would cast a shadow over the successful coach, so Shevchenko decided to leave immediately. He hoped to sign an agreement with a top European club as a cool coach who led the team to the quarterfinals of the European Championship.

Shevchenko hinted several times, and then openly said that he dreamed of Milan. But not everything is so simple. Eventually, employment dragged on. I think Genoa was a compromise, it's not a very bad team and it's a prestigious championship. But this is not Milan, not PSG, not Chelsea, etc.

I don't know what the management of the Genoa team was guided by, but in my opinion such an appointment looks risky. However, I wish Andriy Shevchenko success and will continue to watch his work.
