Photo of the week #118 - Fences from my lens

Sometimes a post we read just grabs that extra attention from us.

I saw a post of a fellow Steemian friend, @apnigrich Fences around me earlier in the week. I absolutely love his photos.

I could not help but wonder about the heading, "fences around me".
How many of us put up fences around us? What are the reasons for these fences? How many of us put up a fence to protect who we are? If we strip these fences away what will be the stories to tell? What do these fences hide? Umh...

Last night while I was watching one of the semi-finals of the Women's T20 World Cup I searched for fence” in my photo folder. Was I surprised. I have 977 photos that relate to the word fence.
Okay, that is nearly one 10th of the photos I have on my phone. Amazing!

It made me wonder, why are fences so important in our lives that they pop up all over our photos without us a realizing it.

I suppose that if you look at the word fence and the meaning thereof some of the surprises disappear. It is a word with many different meanings and ways in which it can be used.

• A fence divides two areas from each other like camps on a farm.
• When you fence your home you do it with a fence to make it safe.
• In show jumping a fence is the obstacle that horses have clear when jumping.
• If you receive stolen property and then resell it you are a fence.
• We hope for Ukraine and Russia to mend fence so that the war can come to an end.
• If you don’t want to take a side in an argument you are sitting on a fence.
• Fence is also the act of the sport of fencing.
• We can also mend our fence to strengthen our negotiation.
• You can fence or isolate a node of a computer cluster.
• We also get a fence diagram that allows measurements from a 3D view.

I am sure that some of you can come up with other ways in which the word fence can be used and what the meaning thereof can be.
