Famous Christmas Tree

in WORLD OF XPILAR2 years ago

Welcome to Trafalgar Square here in central London. It is within a walking distance from the London Eye, St James’s Park and Buckingham Palace.

This square, right by Charing Cross Station, has a special centrepiece, a bit over 20 metres tall Christmas tree.

It is certainly older than me as it is in its sixties. It is decorated with white lights only according to a Norwegian tradition.

This is a Norwegian spruce that came all the way from Oslo. When the Nazis invaded Norway in 1940 the King, Haakon VII escaped and stayed here on our friendly island.

The Norwegian government was even established from the city of London which represented freedom and was a symbol of hope to many.

So still every year many people gather here at Trafalgar Square for the low energy lights to be turned on, which is actually the start of the festive season in our city.

What you will also find here at this time of the year is a Christmas market that boasts a stunning view of that tree.

Having in mind the top central location the drinks here are a bit overpriced, a glass of mulled wine costs 55 Steem. Classic bratwursts sold by two stalls that even face each other are unfortunately half the size of what you get in Germany but are priced at 60 Steem.

Christmas tree decorations from fish and chips, to mind the gap are as English as it gets and do make you smile. There was quite of a queue so I gave up and rushed for my train home. I got a seat next to a 6 year old dog wearing a jumper with Rudolph on. She was incredibly interested in a 6 months old baby girl who the Chinese dog owner admitted is really a good looking creature.

Then an Italian guy spilled some of his coffee on me. He was more surprised than I was as he swore that the cup was empty. A stranger, probably a polite Englishman, gave me a couple of tissues that I am still holding. The Italian mess maker is now sat right next to me and I do hope he isn’t nosy reading the Steemit post that I am currently writing.
