Coming Together As Team To Achieve A Desired Goal

It does not matter how talented a footballer is, he cannot stand alone and defeat a team of opposition. But when he comes together with other footballers to make a team, then he will stand a chance against the opponent. There are places where your individual efforts may not be enough, so you need it to be amplified. You may have a goal of what you want to achieve, but one thing remains that you will definitely need help from people. Trying to get everything done all by yourself may slow you down and may even make you limited in what you can achieve. This is why teamwork is a vital necessity towards success.

When I was doing my internship during my university days, there was this particular project we were supposed to execute. At first, we did not understand it well, so we started putting in individual efforts into it and for almost 1 week, we were still at it - which was supposed to be normally completed in less than 3 days. So we had to confer with our project supervisor. He expressed shock that we were doing it individually. He then told us that it was a group project were everyone has to work as a team. Adorably, when we pulled our energy, time, efforts, and resources together, we were able to achieve the same project in less than 2 day. This show the power that is embedded in coming together as a team.

When you cannot achieve much alone, then try achieving it as a team and see how easy it will become. To show you the power of teamwork; get a stick of broom and attempt to sweep your room with it. Not only will you spend so much time and energy, but you will still not achieve the goal of sweeping the room. However, when you get a bunch (team) of broomsticks, with lesser energy and quicker time, you will be able to achieve the result of sweeping the room. This goes to show you that you achieve better results in quicker time and lesser efforts in team.

In order to achieve more with a team, there are things that you need to understand. Firstly, you need to appreciate each member of the team and know that each of their efforts matter to the success of the task at hand. You do not have to look down on any team member no matter how insignificant you think their input is. In fact, it might be the person who you see as being insignificant that may be holding the pivot upon which the success of the team rests on. More so, that you do not see their input does not mean that they are not doing anything, so learn to appreciate their input.

I have come to understand that when you appreciate someone's effort, then they will be ready to put in their best and even go beyond that. But if you undermine their effort, they will begin to feel unwilling to do anything and it may even lead to losing their support. If you want to get the most of a team, then you need to value each teammate. Remember that no one is of less importance than another, so appreciate each one. Even if you expect them to do more, at least appreciate the one they have done, so as to motivate them to do more.

Another thing to do to make the most of a team is that you need to work on yourself and improve more to add more value. The more you improve on yourself, the more your value and worth also improves and you will become a more strategic team member. Let people feel your input and let them be proud that they are part of your team. When you are good and you undertake your own tasks excellently well, it will act as motivation for others to also do their own. You can improve yourself physically, mentally; by reading, interacting, acquiring skills, etc. Anything that makes you better also makes you a more valuable team member.

The last thing to note in order to achieve much in team is that you need to be in the right team - with people going to the same place as you. If you team up with people going exactly opposite where you are going to or doing different thing from your goal, it may become counterproductive in the long run. The advantage of teamwork only comes when you are in the right team, so be cautious of the kind of team you are part of.
