Happiness As A Good Medicine
Over the years, I have come to understand that happiness is not just an emotion but it is a state of general well-being which results in being contented with life. The truth is that if you want to be happy, then you will discover that there are many reasons to be happy. You are solely responsible for creating your own happiness. In fact, with the way the trend of events are going on in the world, if you do not make yourself happy, you may live a very unhappy life. But when you look at the health benefits that are being happy, you will choose to be happy.
While in school, there was this friend of mine who was a very humorous and a jolly good fellow. In fact, everyone used to cite example with him how someone should be happy. However, something happened one day that demoralized his spirit and that was how he became sad. For days and for weeks, the sadness grew and all of a sudden, the guy who used to be healthy and strong began exhibiting weakness and he started looking sickly. After a few weeks, he almost became like a shadow of his former self. This was when we tried to talk him into putting aside what was making him unhappy and pick back his happy state.
Adorably, when he became happy again and joyful, his health started to come back and before he knew what was happening, he gained back his full health without even needing medication. After that, I used his experience to understand the benefits of happiness. I decided to make a little research about the benefits of happiness to the body and health. Out of the much I researched, I will be dropping some points to note about being happy. The first one is that happiness has a way of positively impacting on one's health by boosting their immunity. It has been proven through various studies that happiness and other positive emotions have a way of triggering the release of antibodies to help fight disease.
In addition to this, happiness also lowers the level of stress that someone experiences. You will agree with me that when you do what you find joy in or what makes you happy, you will see that the stress you are experiencing will reduce well. This is the reason why people go to comedy shows, or do what makes them happier. During my vacation period in one of my aunties' place many years ago, I discovered something very spectacular about her. During weekends, after working for the week. She would take her kids and other family members for a hangout for the weekend and catch some fun - maybe going to events and comedy shows. No wonder they lived healthily. This also proves the health benefits of happiness.
Another very important benefits of happiness that I want to talk about is in the mental health. There is an overall good feeling which positively impacts on the mental health when you are happy. This is how it works - when you are happy, there are sets of hormones, generally regarded as "feel-good" hormones that the body signals its release. When this happens, the mood generally improves. I have noticed that each time I make myself to do what creates happiness, I become more mentally alert. Most of the times that people are mentally down may be linked to not being happy or being sad. But when you are happy, the likelihood of going into depression becomes almost nonexistent.
Now that you have seen the benefits that you can get from being happy, then the bulk of the game lies on your shoulders to make yourself happy. Here are some of the ways to make yourself happy: you need to focus more on the blessings you have and not for the needs that have not been met. When you keep your mind on the good things of life and be contented with them, you will naturally become happier in life and with life. The truth is that even though there are things that you are expecting to have, but there are also many other expectations that have been met which you can recount and then become happier in life.
Another way to become happier is to avoid comparing yourself with someone else. If you start to compare someone's success with what you hope to get, you will just become sad. Your own lane is different from someone else's own and what became a success for them may not be one for you. In this era of social media, do not allow the lifestyle you see being flaunted by others to put you under pressure and make you sad. Remember that everyone has their own individual life to live.
