Taking Good Care Of Your Own Health

in WORLD OF XPILAR2 years ago

Health is wealth

The above quote is popularly used and I have also perceived it to be true. If your health is challenged, you will realize that nothing; including money; will make sense to you. Amassing an extensive amount of material possessions without taking care of your health is already a misplaced priority. If you do not take care of your health and your body, and anything happens to you, what you think you have will be acquired by someone else. So each time you want to sacrifice your health for unworthy things, look at the consequences that may arise from it.

There was a story I had about a certain business man in the place where I grew up. This man had a very thriving business and had shops in the main market which were doing very well. He had the thoughts that everything revolves around money and he was constantly putting his best and pushing above his limits just to amass wealth but he paid little or no attention to other things including his own wealth. He got the wealth and influence but along the line, his health failed him. When the signs presented, he thought it was something negligible and ignored it until the last minute when he collapsed in his shop.

After a while of being in the hospital and spending part of what he had worked hard to get, he passed on. Barely 1 year after his passing on, the widowed wife remarried and unexpectedly, he married one of their domestic staff. So all these while, the man thought that he had been working for himself but he was unknowingly working for his staff. This reminds me of this popular proverb in Igbo (SouthEast Nigeria) that says:

Aghalu ndu kpaa aku, onye iro erie ya.

That is, when you focus on only getting wealth without paying attention to your health, it will be others that will finally enjoy the wealth. The issue of health should be taken with utmost seriousness to avoid labouring in vain.

There are many ways by which someone can take care of their health. For example; eating healthily. Eating healthily can prevent a whole lot of health challenges. You should not just eat because you see something to eat, but ask yourself if what you want to eat is right for you. You will be surprised that you do not needs to be wealthy to eat well, you just need to know how to eat right. After all, there are rich people that eat expensive junks and still end up with a nutrition-related ailment, so eat well.

To take care of one's health, one also needs to consider their lifestyle and their habits. There are some lifestyles that can negatively impact one's health that one needs to avoid. There is a reason why in ever pack of cigarette, there is a warning that is normally attacked to it about the implication of smoking to health, yet there are some people that are into excessive intake of smokes that they can finish a full pack in a day. Imagine the kind of damage they are doing to their lungs and other internal parts of their body in a long while. If you must form a habit, let it be a good habit that will be beneficial to your body. Like forming a habit of exercising one's body, talking a walk, doing yoga, aerobics, etc.

To take care of your health, you should also try to go for regular medical checkup. Some people will not deem it fit to go for checkup until they have finally broken down or when they are sick. It may be the timely checkup that you undertake that will prevent some bigger health challenge. As a matter of fact, when you need to go for medical checkup is when you feel you do not need it. You should not wait until symptom starts to present itself before you go for checkup, make it a routine to do that. You may manage other things but you should not manage your health. Anytime you have a sign that points towards a health-related issue, you should take it seriously and contact a physician. This is in affirmation with the popular quote that says:

Prevention is better than cure.
