The Importance Of Every Moment
There is a situation you will find yourself in, you will understand the value of every single second and know how important time is. A second can be all that can stand between life. I remember a movie I once watched that explained this. The father of the friend had an emergency and because of the impossibility of calling for an ambulance in the remote place where they live, he had to rush his friend's father to hospital on a scooter being tied to his back. As soon as they entered the hospital, the doctors went into actions to save him and luckily he survived. The doctor then confirmed that if they had waited for a couple more seconds, he would have passed on. This shows how very important every second is.
It is worthy to note that time is among the most, if not the most, valuable resources which has been fairly given to humankind in equal proportion. However, you have to know that even though time may be equally given to all, it is not infinite nor limitless. More so, many other resource can be replenished when lost, but time, if passed, has already gone. When you understand this, you will know how to spend and manage your time on things that are worthy and will bring you gain. Managing and mastering your time is not just a skill nor an art that one does when they feel like, but one that could transform their lives, make them better, and increase productivity.
Time itself may be a free gift from nature to you, but your own gift back to nature is how you use the time. You need to be intentional about how you manage and utilise your time - that is, focus on your priorities and do not allow external or internal distractors. In order to effectively manage and utilise your time, you need to first understand your goals. I have come to realise that when you have a clear vision, dream, or goal of what to achieve, it will help you to allocate your time effectively and also helps you to achieve them.
I once listened to the interview of a very renowned tech giant, who has created a paradigm shift in the world with his electric vehicles and a couple of other companies that he has. For a man of that status, you should know that he would have a lot of things on his table to do and many of them will be rigorous. However, he explained that he normally divides his day into block of minutes (say 5 minutes), so that it will be easy to take them block by block and maximise efficiency.
When you wake up in the morning, just know that time is already ticking and will not wait for you. You need to have a list of what to do so that it will keep you on track and give you a sense of purpose. If nothing is driving you to take action, you may waste the whole day on being indecisive. A to-do list will also help you to prioritize your activities and focus first on the most pressing tasks in the order of their importance. A lot of people say that they lack opportunity but they fail to see that time itself is a very big opportunity if used adequately. Of course, time is the currency that you use to buy opportunity.
If you must maximise every moment that you have, then you have to do away with procrastination. What you have to do now, you should know that the best time to do it is now. If you do not take prompt action on your goal or defer the steps to another time, then you are already losing time. One thing about lost time is that you may never be able to regain it back. When you set out to do something, do not delay the action because the relevance of the action might just be dependent on the promptness of the action. Delaying a step that you should have taken in the past till the future may make the step to lose its relevance.
What you should also avoid in order to maximise time and make every moment to count is distraction. In this era, many things have the propensity of distracting someone - from social media, to meeting people, to a host of other things. So one needs to be focused on what they want to do and then put in their undivided attention into it. The responsibility to manage your time is exclusively rested on your shoulders, and you have a choice to make if you will use time effectively or not. Just to let you know; time management is not a gift that anyone is born with, rather it is a choice you have to make to manage time effectively.
