Your Success Requires A Successor
No matter how much achievement you have acquired for yourself, if you do not have someone to succeed you or at least someone that you have replicated yourself into, then you have not really achieved success. Your success should not start and end with you but it should outlive you even when you have gone. This is part of what people will remember you for, not for what you have accumulated for yourself, but how many people you have helped to stand. The reason why you have risen is to also help others to rise - this is what counts as success.
A lot of the witty inventions that we have now were not invented in this era. Some others have even spanned centuries, but because the inventors were able to train others to fill in the gap, their inventions did not die with them. Take this instance: imagine if Orville and Wilbur Wright did not pass on the idea of their airplane to others, the aeroplane may have gone as soon as the Wright Brothers were gone and it would have dealt a serious blow in the transportation field. But because they have others to succeed them, their invention is still very much around even after over a century they left.
There is a tribe in this part of the world that is remarkable with the mentorship program - which is just a way of replicating one's success in many others. Here is how it is done: a successful businessman in a particular field of business, after he has mastered the art of trading, will invite a young apprentice, usually a secondary school leaver. Within an agreed period of time, which can be as much as 7 years or less, the apprentice would work under the supervision and tutelage of the master, which will enable him to learn the trade extensively well. After the time has reached, the master will "settle" the apprentice and he would go ahead and open his own shop with the knowledge and support from his master.
When he opens his own shop, he will apply all what he has learnt and he will also become a master in the trade. After a while, he will also find other apprentices and train them to also master the trade, and the process continues in that manner. It is not surprising that the tribe has produced more billionaires than the other tribes and even have become so successful in the art of trading that they have become the trading hub of the nation. When you help others to stand, you would build up others they will also build others - that is how humanity is built.
That you helped someone does not mean that you will fail neither does making someone stand lead to your falling. As a matter of fact, when you help someone, you also help yourself to achieve more greatness. Adorably, the person you helped to succeed might become instrumental to your greater success tomorrow. I have seen a lot of people being helped by the same people they had helped in the past. Imagine if they did not help them to succeed, when they need the help in the future, they would have missed out of the help. Each time you have the opportunity to help someone to stand, you have to see it as a privilege to also secure posterity.
For whatever you have achieved, try to ask yourself if there are others to take after you when you have gone. Your success should not be centered around only you, neither should it start and end with you - you need to also let others to stand. There was a man within where I grew up who had very established business around the neighbourhood. What made people to like him was not just because he was rich but because he helped others to also become successful in the same business. It was not long and the entire neighborhood was full of successful people. A time came when his own business had a little challenge and the people who he had helped came to his aid and he got back on his feet that you could hardly notice he was down. Imagine if he had not helped them to stand, no one would have come to rescue him. Each time you help people to succeed, you are not just doing the person good but you will also become a beneficiary of the good.
