Slope point New Zealand

in WORLD OF XPILAR4 months ago

Our second stop of our Catlins adventures while we were exploring the wonderful Catlins on the south island of New Zealand.
The Catlins is such a beautiful stretch of the coast line in southern New Zealand between Balclutha and Invercargill. One side you have stunning beaches and coastline and on the other is dense rainforest with breath taking waterfalls.

So let's continue with our adventure and share with you some photos from Slope Point the southernmost point of New Zealand.

From the carpark it is a 20min return walk to the edge of New Zealand.

You walk between two private properties which they have made a walkway towards the ocean.

And what is a walk through green grass in New Zealand with our seeing a sheep or two.

New Zealand is famous for its sheep farming which is important to their economy.

1000012642.jpg

Fun fact there is around 25 million sheep in New Zealand which works out to be around 4.6 sheep per person.. so crazy!

As we got closer to the southernmost point I flew my drone up to get some shots. To view the cliff and the ocean from above

It is always stunning looking at the ocean hitting off the rocks from above!

As every part of New Zealand the landscape is just beautiful!

1000012634.jpg

Such lush green grass cover the fields.

The artic winds here are strong

Once you reach the very bottom of the Southern Island there is a single sign with arrows.

1000012640.jpg

One is pointing to the equator which is 5140km north and the other arrow points to the south pole which is 4803 km south.

1000012627.jpg

At this point this was the closest I had ever been to Antarctica.

Such an absolutely gorgeous looking coastline!!! It is actually very similar looking to many here in the Western Cape of South Africa - but then, that is probably no surprise to you as the similarities in landscapes between SA and NZ have long since been a conversation - at least here it has :)

One of the few differences which I have personally noted over the years, is probably the actual beaches. The beaches in NZ seem to be a lot more stoney and the sand appears to be quite brown... not that I can say that with any personal experience as I have not been there :D Either way though, it is truly beautiful. I would definitely like to travel there for a holiday at some stage in my life.

Oh wow the western cape is beautiful!
SA and New Zealand are very similar landscape.
I hope you get a chance to visit New Zealand one day you will love it!

Oh wow the western cape is beautiful!

Yes, she really is. Very grateful to have grown up here.

Yes, they are very much alike. Climate is similar too, which is I suppose, one of the reasons why so many South African s emigrated there :D

I hope you get a chance to visit New Zealand one day you will love it!

Yes, I have no doubt I would! It is definitely on the list - plus I would be able to visit a few people I know, lol.
