New concept of museums | València CaixaForum | ENG / ESP
The new museums are now in unique buildings, where the concept is what counts. We may agree more or less, but this new trend opens up other creative possibilities, especially at the architectural level and by extension to photography.
This is the case of the new CaixaForum Museum in the Mediterranean city of Valencia. The building was a massive, ten-year-old structure that had lost its original purpose, which was to bring together as many people as possible for theatre and concert activities. But giving content to such a brutal building is very complicated, as well as expensive. The solution came from the private bank, which, through its cultural foundation, signed a 50-year agreement to give cultural meaning to the enormous building.
The result, after a deep refurbishment, is spectacular and they have managed to make the place a pleasant space, with exhibitions of a high level and set up with exquisite taste.
Today I am going to show you what the building and its parts are. Here we see the exterior of the building, which is meant to simulate the skeleton of a whale, and as you may see, is surrounded by an artificial lake.

Los nuevos museos están ahora en edificios singulares, en los que el concepto es lo que cuenta. Podremos estar más o menos de acuerdo, pero esta nueva tendencia abre otras posibilidades creativas, especialmente a nivel arquitectónico y por extensión a la fotografía.
Este es el caso del nuevo Museo CaixaForum en la ciudad mediterránea de València. El edificio era una mastodóntica estructura con diez años de antigüedad a la que se le había perdido la utilidad inicial, que era la reunir en su interior al mayor número de personas posible con actividades teatrales y de concierto. Pero darle contenido a un edificio tan brutal es muy complicado, además de caro. La solución vino de la banca privada, que por medio de su fundación cultural, firmó un convenio de 50 años y dar sentido cultural al enorme edificio.
El resultado, después de una profunda remodelación es espectacular y han conseguido hacer del lugar un espacio agradable, con exposiciones de un gran nivel y montadas con un gusto exquisito.
Hoy os voy a mostrar lo que es en sí el edificio y sus partes. Aquí vemos el exterior del mismo, que quiere simular el esqueleto de una ballena, y que se puede ver, está rodeado de un lago artificial.

Once on the upper floor, the centre is occupied by a structure called "The Cloud", inside which interactive exhibitions are held in which the visitor actively participates. The space is free of charge, but visiting hours must be arranged.

The base of "The Cloud" is surrounded by tilted mirrors, which delights young and old, and especially influencers, who are delighted to be able to take a photo of themselves with a double "selfie".

If you happen to be in Valencia, it's a good place to spend the morning or afternoon without getting too tired and to see some quality exhibitions. At the time of my visit, there was an exhibition on Egyptian mummies. But that will be the subject of another entry.
Si pasáis por València, es buen lugar para pasar la mañana o la tarde sin cansarse mucho y ver alguna exposición de calidad. En el momento de mi visita, estaba activa una exposición sobre las momias egipcias. Pero eso será motivo de otra entrada.
