PROMOTING BASIC EDUCATION IN GHANA - PLANS FOR A SUCCESSFUL CAMPAIGN

Ghana Care is going to embark on an educational promotional campaign where we will visit various basic schools and inquire about some of their basic needs in order to see how best we can support them. Here in Ghana, people in deprived communities lack basic items such as books or uniforms to attend classes so we hope that we can do our part in rendering some assistance in this regard.

HOW WILL WE GO ABOUT THIS?

PHASE 1 - VISITING SCHOOLS & FUNDING

The first thing we ought to do is to visit some of the basic schools around Navrongo and speak to the headmaster/headmistress about some of the educational needs of the children. This is essential as it would help us to really determine our point of focus and prioritize their needs.

From my personal experience, I think the needs of schools vary and looks can be deceiving. It is therefore always best to find out from the headteachers/pupils themselves in order to effectively help address some of these problems to facilitate education.

We will then make enquiries about the cost of items we would need to facilitate our campaign so that we can budget for these items.

From some of our previous activities, we have some financial support to lean on. We will also be providing various updates with this account and encourage members to set a beneficiary to give us the ability to do more.

PHASE 2 - ADDRESSING CHALLENGES

This is where we will be looking at the various challenges we've gathered so far and based on the level of urgency, we will seek to address their most pressing ones. Our goal is to help as much as we can since some of these parents cannot afford a uniform for their kids to attend classes which is quite appalling.

If it is some exercise books that they need, we can also assist them as well. Sometimes, some desks in the class may need repairs which I believe we can collaborate with a carpenter to help fix them. I think this should help us solve their challenges effectively.

One other thing we would be particular about is the importance of education. This is because sometimes the parents in very deprived communities do not know the importance of basic education since they themselves probably never had it. We therefore need stress on its importance to the pupils so that our efforts would not go in vain.

PHASE 3 - ORGANIZE COMPETITIONS

Competition are always a good way to spark a kid's interest in education since the classroom stuff can sometimes get boring for them. We can therefore speak to the headteacher and occasionally organize competitions such as a spelling b competition or other forms of competitions where we can award the winner with something.

This should go a long way to put a smile on the kids face when they put on their attires to go to school. They are our future leaders and we must therefore care for them.
