One may be wondering what sleep is and how much time one should spend in bed to have an adequate and sound sleep.

First of all, sleep is a natural temporary state of rest in which one becomes physically inactive and unaware of his or her surrounding. Some also believe it's is the time in which your mind gets to recharge itself and keep you active for the day.

When one is asleep the person would be unconscious but the brain and body functions are still ongoing. Sleep may seem like a simple life process but it is one of the complex body activities.

You may be wondering if it's necessary to sleep and how long should you rest to have adequate sleep.

The NIH says adults need 7-8 hours of sleep each night to stay in good mental and physical health, promote quality of life, and avoid an increased risk of injury.

There are some tricks one can employ to also have adequate sleep and here are a few of them;

  1. Avoid caffeine and alcohol late in the day.
  2. Avoid heavy meals late in the day. Preferably, a light snack before bedtime is okay to enhance your sleep.
  3. Set your bedroom in the mood for sleep, Low lights, comfy and airy as well
  4. Stick to a fixed sleep routine. A fixed pattern helps your body easily drift into sleep
  5. Avoid nicotine
  6. Regular Exercising

Lastly, I would want to share some reasons why you need enough sleep since sleep is very essential in the life of any living creature and not just humans.

  • Reduced Risk of Disease

  • Healthier looking skin
