Let's talk about plagiarism

When the work of someone else is used in someone else's work or when the ideas of someone is used in another person's work without proper consent or acknowledgement, we say plagiarism has occurred. The piece of material can be copied from anywhere, it may be published or unpublished. One's it is not our ideas, it is expedient that we give respect to the source where the material was taken from.

Plagiarism is a form of stealing and it is an offence in every academic discourse. It is a violation of academic integrity of the sources from which we took our materials from. In academia, plagiarism is a serious offence and it is considered as stealing. When the work of a writer is properly acknowledged, he/she feels happy and boosted that his or her ideas/work has had an impact and relevance.

Crediting sources where we picked our materials from, helps our work to be genuine and reliable and free from any criticism of thievery. Note that even if sources are acknowledged, a writer isn't entitled to copy fully a work of someone. That also is seen as plagiarization.

Making someone's work our own, copying ideas from someone without acknowledging, producing wrong information about where materials were picked from, taking so many words or links from a source can all be considered as plagiarization as noted above.

Our community, steemit, intensifies its campaign against plagiarised content on the platform and encourages authenticity.

Let us make our work trustworthy by crediting our sources, acknowledging sources properly and providing readers with source to which we consult.

It is important to note that; images, music, videos can be plagiarised, so we should never leave them untackled. They all should be referenced accordingly.

Whenever we pick a text, we can let it be evident in our work by using the sign in the bracket (>) before the copied item is introduced and sourced appropriately. For example;

Today opened with songs from the neighbor's room. It was a worship song. It didn't wake me up actually, but as I was there, I was enjoying the melodies of it. Sundays are always beautiful. I knew I would go to church so I quickly had my morning prayer and read a part of Psalms. I quickly rushed to the bathroom because I felt I was getting late. I brushed and bathed. I wouldn't say this morning I exercised. In fact I didn't.

We, @steem-ghana, encourages all members to respect the discourse and as a matter of fact must respect sources they consult from. The steemit community can be a better place if we all do our best to avoid thievery acts and produce good contents.

Plagiarism is not a thing our community support at all and I believe no steem-ghana members is involved in plagiarism. Having said that, if you know you have plagiarized any post please put a stop to it. Never do it again because that can cause you to loss your chances on posting to the community.
