I trust your weekend is going on well! Mine is amazing and today I will discuss with us the keys to food safety and healthy diet. This topic is so important because what we eat really matters, so I will discuss the keys to food safety, healthy eating and common misconceptions we must avoid.

WHAT YOU EAT MATTERS:

What we eat really matters, this is because our health partly depends on what we eat. We can improve our health if we maintain healthy diet and food safety. But on the contrary just as poor quality of fuel normally leads to car problem, eating unsafe/unwholesome food can lead to serious health problems, though they may not appear immediately, but they will surely come.
Frequent consumption of unwholesome drink or food increases our risk of overweight and obesity leading to heart disease, diabetes, stroke and cancer. Poor nutrition leads to millions of death every year. I believe you can see with me the important of what we eat now. Let's consider the keys to food safety.

KEYS TO FOOD SAFETY:

a. Prepare your food safely: this is so important because harmful germs in contaminated water or food can enter our body and cause is sick. It is recommended that we do this:

  • Washing our hands with soap and water before we prepare food: we need to scrub our hands, the backs of our hands, in between our fingers, and under our fingernails for at least 20 seconds and then rinse and dry our hands well before we start food preparation.

  • Washing our kitchen utensils with water and soap: this includes cutting boards, knives, dishes and everything else our food will be touches. Never use the same board for cooked food and the uncooked one.

  • Properly wash your vegetables and fruits and make sure you disinfect them if you're living in an area where crops might probably irrigated using contaminated water.

b. Always separate raw food and cook foods: this is because germ from raw food like meat and its juices can contaminate other food.so always separate your raw meat from prepared food when you carry them home from the market and store them. Wash your hands thoroughly after cutting raw meat, wash the knife and the cutting board too before cutting any other food with or on it.

c. Make sure you cook all the food that needed to be cooked thoroughly

  • always cook your food until it is very hot.
  • bring stews and soups to boil
  • always reheat any previously cook food until it's hot and steaming before you eat.

d. Always keep your food at safe temperatures: this is because number of bacteria in food can be double if it is not stored in a safe temperature.

  • always keep your food either hot or cold, not lukeworm, this will stop or slow germs from multiplying.
  • don't leave food on sitting at room temperature for more than 2 hours
  • try and keep the food hot until just before serving.

KEYS TO HEALTHY EATING:

Eat variety of fruits and vegetables daily: they are vital source of vitamins and minerals and other important nutrients and elements good to our health.

LIMIT YOUR INTAKE OF FATTY, FRIED AND PROCESSED FOODS:

Processed food contains unhealthy fat that is harmful to our health .

REDUCE YOUR SALT AND SUGAR INTAKE:

Reduce your daily intake of salt 🧂 to less than a teaspoonful and try and avoid taking process foods and drinks, drinks like soft drinks because the sugar contents in them are high, and they are high in calories and provide little or no nutritional value.

SOME COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS WE MUST AVOID:

Food is safe to eat if it smells nice, looks Sumptuous, and taste good.

  • fact: it takes 10billion bacteria 🦠 to cause a liter of water 💦 to look cloudy, but as few as 15-20 harmful ones to make one sick, so we should ensure that our food and drinks are safe by Preparing, serve and store them within recommended temperature.

Have Been Eating Unhealthy Food For a long time so it won't help if I change my eating habit.

  • Fact: eating healthier will reduced our risk of untimely death, and we will gain more benefits the longer we maintain good diet.

Things like Chorela is caused because of the hygienic conditions when coking food.

And also we eat a lot of junk food just because it looks or smell nice
