Hello lovelies; it’s your girl Nancy😂 welcoming you to today’s chat room. Today, I would like us to join ideas together, talk and learn about sex education in African homes. I am very much aware that there would be exceptions to whatever I would say but nonetheless the points will touch on the mass population.
Let’s ride on……….

Introduction

We are in the 21st century. This century is characterized by exposure to both good and bad.
Sadly, some parents today still find it difficult to normalize talking about sex.
Are you a mother, father, elder brother or sister; jump in, let's share ideas on this.

An Aside

Since I was born till now that I am an adult, my parents have never talked about sex to me. Quite strange right, yet true. All my father would often say is “ if you get pregnant, don’t come back to my house” with a very stern voice and wild look.

Now back to our topic of discussion, I think parents and guidance should normalisé sexual education with their kids.

As young as possible, a child should be able to know the private and public areas of his or her body. Emphasis should be laid on the private areas with lessons on how important and precious they are. We should let our kids know that these areas are not to be touched by whoever for whatever reason.

In today’s world, it is very common to hear about rape cases of children. Just the thought of this kills me and some kids even die in the process. Just maybe, if they were taught about some of the basics of the private parts, these would be avoided.

Tell them things like;

  • No one should touch my private part
  • If anyone does, I must tell my mommy and daddy immediately

These words should be followed by action so they actually know these private areas. We should also endeavor to teach them with all seriousness so that they understand how important it is.

Now unto the next level of our discussion, I think parents should truthfully educate their children about sexual intercose as early as 10 years old. Sadly, you need to see what some of these so-called kids ignorantly do at these very tender ages.

When I talk on sexual education, I do not mean what most of our African parents say like if you stand with a boy, you would get pregnant. No no no no.

We should know that, if we do not take it as a responsibility to teach our kids about sex the right way, they would certainly learn about it one way or the other probably in the wrong way.

As I earlier said, we are in the 21st century. The internet has a lot to offer and sex education is one of these. What if your kid falls on the wrong information and starts the wrong practices?
We are in a world were homosexuality, lesbianism and all the likes are considered as socialism.
If there’s something I know, it is that this socialism as it is called is really not part of African culture.

So my dear parents, it is either you teach them what is right or let them learn from wherever what they consider right which might end up destroying them in the long run.

  1. Sex should be taugh using the right words and not otherwise.
  2. Teach your children the purpose of sex.
  3. Suggest to them the right time and the right reasons for sexual activities.
  4. Make them fully aware of every part of their bodies and their uses.
  5. And the list continues………

Do you know that there are sites on the internet for porns for kids?

Do you know there are porn cartons?

Do you know there are sexual online games for kids?

If you didn’t know, know today that all these are available free and with no restrictions on the internet.

An aside

Let me share this here;
My boss’s 9 years old daughter came up to me today and she said she wanted to ask me something. I said ok, go on and she said privately. Hahhahaha funny, but then I followed her to her room. She said it was something that usually happens to her and she doesn’t know why.
She said each time she watches a movie of people kissing, her vagina starts to tinkle. And she asked me why?

God knows I have never been this speechless all my life. I mean, at 9? I had a thousand thoughts running through my mind; what should I say? Where should I start from? Would her parents be happy if I even say anything? And a whole lot more,

My people, please help me out. What was I to tell this baby???

Conclusion

Sex education should not be a taboo. Your kid should be your all round friend and should be ready and willing to share with you his or her every worry, doubt, stage or moment.

This is a very vast and important topic and I am aware that I haven’t covered even a third of it but then, I hope this however serves as a quick reminder for us all.

I’ll end here for now, please feel free to add up your point of view so that we all can learn. I am waiting.

Best Regards,
@nancymboghi.

Definitely, and it's amazing how these kids in this generation can manipulate the electronic Devices so good.

I will advise you should have atleast told her just that it's not normal but it's very important she trust her mom and tell her anything that has to do with her body while you inform her mommy too.
Please do inform her mommy.

I have four boys and the least is 7months old. Just imagine if the 4th was a girl do you know how many unanswered questions my kids will ponder each day without asking me if I'm not open to them?

Please let's parents teach their kids.
Start from somewhere and each passing day tell them something that concerns their body.

It is really amazing how smart they are when it comes to gadgets.

I will go for her today and have a one on one talk with her, but before then I’ll make sure to confide in her mother.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Wow, mother of boys🤗🤗🤗…. Awesome.
You are totally right; you really what have had so much explaining to do considering how smart and curious kids could be.

Thank you so much😊🙏🏽

Thank you for addressing a subject which is so often taboo in many households.
If you don’t know how to tell your kids then buy a book. There are some excellent ones you can get.
In South Africa they start at 10 years old teaching the kids about their bodies, the change as a teenager etc. Thank you for that!

Easy ma’am, and a great alternative. At least buy books; that is actually starting from somewhere.

What you've written is the absolute truth, parents need to face the fact their children are humans who can learn whatever they want and if the right information is not passed to them on time ,they learn and practice the wrong things .sex education is very important.

It is good to start early to teach our kids basic things especially sex education.

In this 21st century, a lot of things are happening. Children are influence negatively by their peer groups and through internet device.

Thank you for reminding is as parents.

This is so.true but.i.also believe.it.starts from childhood. That child has.to have been your friend enough.to.broach.this subject because like s too.theyre scared and.uncertain about what it all means
The last thing they need is a shout @nancymboghi

Ohhhh yesss dear
It should definitely start from childhood. Trust is something that is build. Topics like this need so much trust especially from the kids and we don’t expect this trust to just happen out of the blues.
When they trust you, then they become open to you.
