This morning I went to the nearest traditional market in the Simpang Muling area. This market has always been my favorite because of its lively atmosphere and very affordable prices. With a simple shopping list in hand, I started looking for fresh ingredients for today's kitchen needs.

My first step was to go to the fishmonger section. There were so many choices of fresh fish that had just been caught from the sea. I was very interested in buying tuna, which was priced at 20,000 IDR per kilogram. The color of the meat looked healthy with a distinctive aroma of sea fish which indicated that the quality was very good. In addition to tuna, I also bought dencis fish for 30,000 IDR per kilogram. This dencis fish is known to be very delicious when cooked with yellow spices or fried dry as a side dish.

After finishing with the fish section, I headed to the fresh vegetable stall. My eyes immediately fell on the pile of green and fresh water spinach. The seller offered a very affordable price, only IDR 2,000 per bunch. Without hesitation, I took a few bunches to cook as lunch supplies. In addition to water spinach, there are also various other types of vegetables such as spinach, cassava leaves and eggplant, all at pocket-friendly prices. While walking around, I also enjoyed the market atmosphere which was full of hustle and bustle of activity there. The sellers friendly offered their wares, while the buyers were busy choosing the best items to take home. This traditional market does have its own charm, not only in terms of price but also warm social interactions.

After finishing shopping, I felt very satisfied because I got fresh ingredients at very affordable prices. My total shopping today was not too big, but I had brought home quite a lot of quality food ingredients.

When I got home, I immediately prepared the fish and vegetables that I had just bought to be cooked. I will process the tuna into spicy coconut milk curry, while the dencis fish will be fried crispy. My wife will also stir-fry the fresh water spinach with garlic, creating a simple but delicious dish. Today, shopping at the nearest traditional market at Simpang Muling was truly a pleasant and cost-effective experience.
