LAMENTABLE CRISIS

I used to love meddling in life,
To be who I am – but to be able to touch it...
And there's no way: each time I lose
More the skill to grasp it.
Living at home like everyone else.
Not having sense in my books – but
Always finishing the month with
Expenses paid religiously.
Not being afraid to follow small
Ones and invite them to place me in them –
Opening windows to my Ivory Tower,
In one word, and not making any more scenes.
Having strength one day to break the gears
Of this mechanism that keeps on grinding:

Not sending telegrams to my father,
Not walking around Paris, as I do, with nothing to do.
Getting up and leaving – not needing
An hour and a half before stepping outside.
Putting an end to this living on the moon,
Losing the “frousse” of drafts.
Not always meddling, breaking things
In the homes of friends I visit –
Not immersing myself in delicate stories
That I only argue in fantasy.
That everything in me is winged fantasy,
A crime or good never committed:
And always the gold melts in lead
By my bad luck or my sweaty Zoina...
