LOVE

Those eyes approach and pass.
Perplexed, full of deep light,
sweet and sharp, they dominate me.
Who would have thought them so bold?
So humble and so imperious,
so obstinate!
How close our shoulders are!
They face each other and slip away,
deny all their courage.
From time to time,
this my hand,
which is a sword and defends nothing, moves in the orbit of those eyes,
wounding their short path,
powerful and peaceful.
Love, so earthly of Love,
how sensitive you are...
Sensitive and violent, passionate.
So filled with desires!
You calm and double,
and from you, you are reborn at every moment.
Lamb that bristles and rages,
and soon falls into soft impotence.
Eternal weariness!
Or despair, or fear.
Wild flight from possession, from giving.
So much beating of restless wings,
so much cry and lost feather...
And the truce, cowardly love?
Further and further away,
more distant and desired.
Oh love, love,
what will we do with you,
and you with us?
